SiriusXM starts at beginning of song when changing channels

It seems like when I change channels on Sirius XM, it frequently starts at the beginning of a song as opposed to streaming live and starting in the middle of a song.

Is there a way to change this so it is just always live? I could not find a setting for this.

Not the worst thing for songs, but I've noticed it doing on live news feeds too where it will go backwards in time with things I've already heard. I don't want this feature for news and sports.

I thought there was, but just looked at the manual and can't find it. I think I may be thinking of my wife's car, because I KNOW I've changed that setting recently.

You likely have TuneStart turned on. Either disable it, or there should be an option to select live listening/mode.

OK looking at the manual, it looks like this feature is called Automatic Timeshift and you have to press and hold to see it (on a per channel basis). No wonder I didn't see anything in any menus. I'll have to play around with this when I get back to my car.

Got in my car. Press and hold a channel. No such thing as automatic time shift available to me. Not sure how to change this and it doesn’t match what is in the online manual.

Automatic time shift is different. It automatically pauses the playback if you get a phone call or nav instructions.

Might also be cuz you’re on your presets. Actually go to the channel in question outside of presets. Also, don’t forget to scroll down, could be additional options. I see the scroll bar being indicated for additional stuff.

There is no scrolling down, but great point about the presets. I'll check that next.

Notice that my photo is showing a preset channel with Automatic timeshift option.

The SiriusXM channel issue that your iDrive 8.5 has is actually a SiriusXM feature called Tune Start in iDrive 9. It may be possible that your M-skin iDrive 8.5 is in some kind of “funky state”, and it needs a deep restart (holding volume button 3 restarts), or a software update.

Moving to the SXM channels and long pressing did reveal auto time shift. But it was unselected.

So it looks like auto time shift is not responsible for the behavior where songs start over when you tune to a station.

Interesting. I can’t get a screen that looks anything like that to show up. Do you see that Listener Settings option when you long-press a channel under SiriusXM source?

Are your presets set as Smart Favorites? Supposedly TuneStart might be an option only available when a channels is set this way.

I don’t see a smart favorite option. I can select favorites but that’s it.

OK, dumb question, but have you actually tried to change XM channels NOT from a Favorite to see if the songs start from the beginning? If they don’t, then it’s a function of you favoriting the channel.

Not a dumb question. I can try that. I think the favorites sync between devices though. As an example, in the app your Library I think is your favorites. Maybe I’m wrong about that though. I’ll try unfavoriting them and also selecting non favorite channels to see what happens. Good idea, thanks.

What do you mean by that? Are you using the SXM app on your phone with the same account as assigned to your receiver? The reason I’m asking is because this function is available on the app supposedly. I’m wondering if that’s carrying over somehow, but I don’t know if iD8 is fancy enough to be syncing over 3rd party app stuff like that or if maybe the favs are now somehow saved in XSM’s backend and pull down (something they definitely didn’t have before). It’s been years since I’ve used XM since going strictly AppleMusic, so I don’t know if they’ve made any advancements on their server side.

I think they are connected. Because when you sign up for the service online it links to your car. I think it also auto favorited channels for me if I remember correctly as if they came from SiriusXM. Could be wrong about that though as I was initially confused between Presets and Favorites, so I know I manually did some too.

I plan on testing this though. I'm going to remove my favorites and see if it also removes them from the app. And while I'm at it will see if that disables the Tune Start feature.

Look in the app also and disable TuneStart there. App Settings/Other Settings/TuneStart.

Also, try this… when you change channels, pause the payback and hit play again and see if it’ll skip to Live.
