BMW M4 CS Quick Review [Extra Throttle House]

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Quote:
The 2025 BMW M4 CS ($150,000 starting in Canada, $123,500 starting in the US) is a lighter and more powerful version of the already-rapid BMW M4. It has a 3.0L twin-turbo inline-6 engine that makes 543 horsepower, and has a claimed 0-60 mph time of just 3.2 seconds. To live up to its CS namesake, the M4 CS boasts some performance enhancing goodies. This includes the use of lightweight materials, specific chassis and suspension tuning, exclusive CS wheels and several other changes. But does it live up to its hefty six-figure price tag? And how does it compare to its CSL predecessor? Thomas and James can’t wait to find out!

I found it interesting 2WD and 4WD lap times were the same. Surprising on this short track.

Very biased review.
I prefer the M3 CS, but if you like 2 doors, the M4 CS is the sweet spot between the regular and the CSL.

That's gotta be a driver issue. I don't see how one wouldn't pull better times than the other in different conditions.

CSL is on cup2R and lighter. its probably turning into those corners and pulling higher G's than the awd model.... which would only be make up time on corner exit.

My comment was in reference to the M4 CS only - in the video above they mentioned they lapped the M4 CS in both 2WD and 4WD mode back to back and achieved identical times. Strikes me as odd...

These guys' "reviews" are as good and reliable as my review about Space X rockets. (Not specific to this car).

I don't understand BMW strategy.
BMW meant track car by introducing "CS" so this car is supposed to be pure track oriented car and still does not have CCB as standard option but has CF hood , extra CF interior trim and CF bucket seat...

Yeah I know, I'm with you.

There's no way they'd achieve the same times.

BMW absolutely did not mean that. That's what the CSL is for.

(I need to find that graphic where BMW explained their strategy.)

Actually not. I’m not taking about opinions, I’m talking about prejudices. there is an ill-concealed sense of disappointment related to the car that actually is extremely good (even if I don’t like the M4). I’m pretty vocal and I don’t hesitate to explicitly share my disappointment (see my previous posts about M2 and the new M5), but I avoid to give an emotional interpretation of numbers, because numbers are not subjective . Usually TH guys are pretty good in producing valuable car reviews… that’s why this time I was surprised

So whats the strategy of CS if you know?
A car that is not meant to be track car and has lots of CF and about 20k more expensive than 2025 M4CX with the option it has for 20 more HP and CS Badge?
I dont think so…
I think CSL is light weight RWD track car and M4CS is AWD track car.

I like throttlehouse and agree with their opinions but they aren’t doing instrument testing so I take them just as that, and not a ‘real’ review.

Todays Carmudgeon podcast had Cammisa spending a bunch of time on reviews vs opinions and walking back some mean rhetoric he got tangled up in recently. Worth a listen.

Cammisa is as legit as it gets for those keen to understand the engineering and innovation behind the vehicles. He knows his automotive sht.

Tesla is doing some incredibly innovative things along with Lucid and Rivian. The M models are unequivocally dinosaurs in comparison running on dino juice that many enthusiasts want to rightfully hang on to because heritage. It's what Many of us grew up with. Cars go vrroooM.

I embrace both EVs and ICE cars as they both hold unique value props in my garage. It's totally OK to respect and enjoy both genres of vehicular transportation IMHO.
