G80 M3 Manual - Future Classic per Doug DeMuro

Don’t think I’ve seen this posted. G80 and G87 manuals are first up in the video.

Daddy Doug...always trying to push sales on C&B now. Miss the days when he was all about reviewing Nissan Fiagros and GM Dustbuster vans instead of pumping cars he has for sale.

He isn’t wrong about the G8x w/ 6MT. Nor is he wrong about the CT5 Blackwing. 10 years from now people will be drooling for them.

The E39 M5 and original CTS V were very well received when they were new and even better when their productions ended.

There was a time when I thought that “this is it”; electrics taking over forever and that was it. Specifically it’s that first neck snapping speed on take off in a straight line. And it was truly awesome, a couple of times. But the novelty faded, and in the scheme of things it faded quite quickly. Most of the time now when I’m in an electric (not every one I grant you), I feel like I’m riding in an elevator. A soulless, automated, electrically whining elevator.

It took that experience though to really forge my love for ICE. From the noise, and the drama of the engine, and the inherent connectedness of an MT, on the roads and especially in the canyons; to the consumable and upgrade options, costs, availability and repair ability for track days ~ the ICE set up is just, well… better.

I think in 5 years when ICE is all hybridized, or banned altogether, cars like the Challenger R/T and higher, CT-V’s and the G80/82 with MT will be yearned for desperately.

Just my 2 cents. Then again, I’ve never picked winning lottery numbers so who knows if this will turn out to be true.

The Figaro video was four months ago and Cars and Bids launched in 2020.

Anyway, I suspect that if someone found him entertaining five years ago, they would still find him entertaining now.

With the shift from manual to automatic transmissions and the transition from gas-powered vehicles to hybrids or fully electric, a lot of cars from this era will become future classics.

Agree. We kind of take them for granted when they are available then fight over them (e.g. drive up the prices) later…

In 5 years nothing will be any different. Lol. There is absolutely ZERO chance this country will be even at 50% in 5 years.

I wonder what will happen with the adoption curve… If it will flatten out or go even sharper. It’s all just a guess on what happens next I suppose. Here are the metrics for what’s happened so far https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=61344

Either way my personal plan is to hold on to my 6MT for as long as humanly possible.

Funny, I’ve been talking to my kid about cars and some of the great cars I’ve had, especially the E39 M5. And I would talk about how great it was to row through the gears and the pure analog feel of driving a manual transmission. Now, he wants to learn how to drive a stick and he now is realizing how bland EVs are. Now, he (14yr old) wants a manual transmission car. I think manuals will have a solid demand for new and younger drivers if they realize how fun they are. Sadly, our media likes to just push the EV craze and that’s what these kids now talk about.

Yep -- same here. Upon his demands/pleading, I taught my son (then 18) to drive manual on my G80 right after it came in this past December ... and he's now a total convert. As of now his next car likely will be the new Integra Type S -- which, of course, only comes in a manual variety.

They might not be the most practical (not at all), or the fastest (again, not at all), but IMO manual transmissions will always have a devoted following -- no matter how long it takes the EV market to overtake/replace ICE.

So I'd guess Doug probably is right, and these G8x platform 6MTs at the very least will be coveted some day as [relatively] more limited novelties, even if not ultimately becoming "classics" in every sense.

Either way, I'm planning to hold on to mine ... indefinitely.

This may prevent people from driving their manuals...could be a good investment now.

I'm certainly not on that list. I don't have sufficient restraint to not drive my car, plus I need to go places to get stuff...and things...

I don't. Neither does my 17 year old son, who made it a point to watch the end of the year Doug awards with me every year. There has been a marked shift in his content and quite frankly, I click on maybe 10 percent of his videos now. It's not hard to figure out, all you have to do is look through his YouTube video catalog.

Sure. He’s one of the most subscribed car YouTubers but not everyone will find him entertaining, regardless of the specific cars or car related content that he’s doing.

I don't watch much Doug, I find him to be pretty annoying. I appreciated his in depth review style where he'd really get into the interior and show you legit everything about the car, that was helpful.

I gave up on him when I watched his video where he dragged his Ford GT against an original GT40, and was the absolute most shit driver I've ever seen from a professional car reviewer, or maybe anyone. After that I absolutely do not care about his opinions.

Ya, me too. But I can see where others may not.

I find watching Mat Watson difficult but he has a huge following.

Mats another fav. I like goose n jack, Matt Farrah and Zack and makse. It takes me 6 months to buy a tv, these car reviews I consume like cigs and crack. Finally pulling the trigger on a G87 this fall

Yup!

A nice G87 M2 manual in the future will be as desireable as a nice E46 M3 coupe is these days.
