Yes, the voice phone book works without nav. Unfortunately, some of the commands listed in the owners manual are incorrect. If you say "help" when prompted for a command, the system will read out the available commands.
FWIW - I find the system flaky - I have about a 50% success rate dialing by voice. |

I have all of my phonebook entries available - literally hundreds, but voice command says that there are no entries, when I try to do a voice lookup.
It's almost like it wants me to train a voice for each entry, and I don;t believe you are supposed to do that (or have a way to do that). |

BTW: although not voice activated, you can access your entire phone book, last calls (very useful), missed calls, etc via the radio display. Because it is such a hassle, I only added about 6 or 7 of my most frequently called numbers to the voice database. The rest, I dial using the radio controls.

My manual has just about all the commands wrong.. I finally added one number to the voice phone book with success. I will work on more. It seems it has a real hard time doing what its supposed to.

When adding voice dials, I have only been able to do it by saying the digits of the phone number one at a time, is there a way to add a voice dial to entries already stored in my phone? (i.e., without the need to dial in each phone number)

Oh ... voice matching, not voice recognition ... in general if you use that you should get a higher match rate than with voice recognition. Make sure you give a useful delay before speaking the name, and speak in the same tone when recording, as you do when dialling, for maximum effectiveness.
