Interesting that at this point where he's going full hooligan, he's got everything in comfort / efficient but in 2WD. He even has it in D1!!!

I guess it was more about entertainment than a thrilling ride.

I'm certain the car is a beast but that huge digital screen is a little too much for my liking - but I guess at high speed, you wouldn't notice it as much1

What I’ll never understand is why BMW limits the production of these. If they let people order and spec a CS, I bet a third of all G80 orders would be for the CS. They’d make a killing. Customers would be happy.

The CS, I believe, is positioned to be a rare version, which they charge much more and it retains its value accordingly. There is no reason for them to make more of them. At the price point that it is, it won't increase its sales numbers I think, but by limiting its production, they make sure it sells out. The more limited it is, the more they can charge for it. Case in point: The CSL. $20K more expensive than the CS, but it is limited to 1,000 units. It sold out very rapidly.

The less available, the more demand since it’s now the rare edition. This will also drive the price point up.

People will settle for the base/lower models when they can’t get a hold of the special edition (CS).

Then, BMW can gradually increase the prices on the normal M’s since the special edition CS model drove the price up high.

People will think they’re getting a deal still overpaying for base models.

Or something. Idk 😅

I’m not sure if BMW makes money with the CS.

There a CS at a main dealer here in the UK being sold at over 10% discount with 200 miles on it. About £17,000 off from list. So 15% essentially.

I folded when I bought mine and now I’ve overpaid lol. Luckily I’m not in a financial situation where not having the extra money would effect me, but you live and you learn.

I am sure it does. The CS, at the end, is very slightly modified CompX, although quite meaningfully, with some chassis and suspension improvements. However, it does not require any re-tooling at the factory or special parts to be produced just for that model. It is a brilliant approach to make even more money without increasing costs, I think.

I ordered back in April when it was still a split dash. My car just arrived and it's a 24 with the single screen, didn't love it in pictures, but it is definitely growing on me. Lots of good information to be had in that mega screen.

I am in the same opinion. I disliked the idea of the large screen, and even thought of purchasing the CSL with ID7, but now that I have used ID8, I really like it. It is not perfect, but much better than I thought it would be.

it says something when people think £110K is a ‘good deal’. Bloody hell. The market is a joke at the moment.

I remember when a fully kitted M2 Comp was below £50K brand new. Those were the days

I think a few parts are different though as mentioned. Different ani-roll bars, different bushings & the CSL strut tower brace to name a few. So it's not all just software & alignment tweaks.

I believe by special he means something that would be difficult to retrofit or swap out. Literally every physical piece on a CSL can easily bolt on to an existing G80xC that I am aware of.

So, while there are some costs to the low volume of different parts (I think the modified wheel hubs are probably the most significant change I can think of) it's not great, and it's mostly R&D and incremental costs from there.

Please note...this is not a snub at the CS in any way. Porsche is the master of subtle changes adding up to a much different product. Drive a 991.2 Carrera and Carrera T back to back and you would swear the Carrera T had a completely different suspension and steering rack. But it's all down to bushings, settings and minor kinematic changes, and software / tuning. Same as this.

That’s because this is the sportiest way to drive. You get more control out of the car when in Efficient since your pedal modulation is much better.

It’s more dangerous to be in a twitchy mode that BMW calls “Sport” without traction/stability controls on.

When you take in account the cost, you should have to consider not only the special parts, but also the design, the test and everything is related to the CS project..
