Time to Approve Individual Color?

Does anyone know how long it takes to get an Individual color approved? I requested Frozen Black, but my dealer was saying it wasn’t available? I had to tell them to submit a request to BMWNA. I found this a bit alarming considering it is on the Individualizer and wasn’t sure if they just didn’t want to put in the extra work.

Anyways, they told me they did, but I haven’t seen anything change on MyGarage. My Build Week is Week 50. My CA also went from being very responsive to not answering my calls or texts. Maybe just being a bit paranoid, but if anyone has any greater insight would be appreciated!

I also ordered an individual color, Techno Violet, for my base model. From what my CA showed me from their system the special order request was submitted on 8/28 and was approved on 9/8.

I've been in status 112 "Scheduled for production" the last couple weeks with a build week of 47. I called the BMW Genius hotline and they confirmed the same. I'm sure the timeframe should be about the same for you.

I would add that if the dealership you went to is saying Frozen Black isn't available, maybe try contacting another dealership. I've read of several people who ordered Frozen Black recently so it shouldn't be an issue. Also, you may be low on the waitlist and there's no info available as of yet. There might be another dealership with an earlier allocation than the dealership you went to.

I originally was on a waitlist on one of the Houston dealerships but ended up going to another one when I didn't like/trust the info the first dealership provided. The second dealership secured an allocation for me within a couple of days of me placing my order while I was on the waitlist with the first dealership for 2 months without anything happening or receiving any info. I received my production # a little after my build was approved.

You mentioned you haven't seen any progress on MyGarage. Does that mean you received your production # already?

Yes, I've already received my production number last Thursday (10/26), and I believe my dealership put the request in on 10/28 from what they told me. I called Genius to see if maybe something had updated on their end, but they told me it hadn't. I'll probably give it some more time, seeing as yours took 10 days to get approved.

They may not know how to do it. There isn't a whole lot of extra work to do. It's a simple form with the info for the model and production number, plus the request (with paint code) and the wholesale/msrp of the paint. They have to submit the form to their BMW rep to start the process.

If you don't see Special Order Color when clicking on your vehicle in your garage, you don't have an individual paint order.

If you are week 50 and ask for Individual you will probably bump 6-10 weeks out just FYI

So my dealer told me that they had put the request in for the individual color - is there a time gap between when it's requested for and when it updates on MyGarage? Considering it's an individual color that's been ordered plenty before, I'm wondering what the timeframe is for BMWNA to approve it.

Gonna contact them tomorrow and ask for a copy of the request to make sure.

For me, soon as they put in request. It updated online to show individual color next day although the color was not official approved. I did go from status 112 to 102. It took about a week for actual color to get approved.

As already mentioned. If they put in request, you should see it on your build online. If not, would call them again.

Once approved, you'll see that the order shows a special order color. I think you're fine. I would wait until at least your car shows up in MyGarage with your spec info/options before doing anything as you're still a few weeks away from 112 status and will have plenty of time to change your order if needed.

I completely agree with calbears that it should be an easy request.

102 is approved, just means it's awaiting a production week assignment

Approval will move you to status 102. That can be fairly quick (sometimes a day) or a few days.

You should pop to status 150 (production begins) with a VIN # generated any day now. You'll sit there until a day or two before your build date (you'd know that once you hit 150 using the chrome extension), then you'll move through the process.

I'd say if you don't hit 150 by next week, call BMW CS and ask again for your build week, you may have been pushed back.
