The IOMG Curse Continues... :(

Not a full job...but I'll label it under the IOMG curse anyway. Went to chiro and acupuncture to get all untweaked, came out to this!

Was backed into by work truck in Manhattan Beach. Thankfully, Skechers HQ security cams had footage and homeowner was able to track down the worker who said he waited for 30 minutes but had to go to another job. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because there's nothing I can do now as the damage is done and he fessed up. I'm guessing he's had a worse day than I did.

Anyway, his insurance, AAA, said there's a decent chance damage will be above his policy's coverage. Both doors are out of whack and can't be opened (rear door appeared fine at first, but it's lifted in the back). Windows go up/down. So, untweaked me became retweaked me climbing over the center to get in.

So, both doors and all the blending means I get to have a half-repainted car. Fun times!

Dude this hurts. I've had similar happen to myself. It's a horrible feeling to come out and see your car smashed in.

Good thing is you weren't driving and got t-boned so no one was hurt. Wishing you the best on repairs and it comes back to you like new!

Sorry buddy.

Which saves even more money, because then you don't need a car at all!

Sorry to see this. What does "above the policy's coverage" mean? (yes I know what the term means, but it makes no sense in this context) Does your state not have mandatory minimums for liability?

Even if true, the excess liability reverts to the trucking company, and they will have to pay the balance out of their own pocket.

Fortunately, that's not your problem. File with your own insurance, and let them sue AAA and the trucking company to get their money back.

Cars can be fixed by a reputable body shop to near perfection, pick the right shop and things will work out for you.

Previous poster is right, have your insurance deal with it, and get an expert to go after diminished value if you feel strongly about it.

Best of luck to you.

Just get your insurance company involved. It’ll all be covered and they’ll go after AAA so you won’t have to worry about it.

Sorry though, hopefully it’ll be good as new soon.

Wow, this sucks to see. Sorry man.

I agree with the others, get your insurance involved and they’ll work to get it all settled with the other insurance company. Hopefully all the repairs are well done and soon enough it will be like it never happened.

Thanks for all the positive thoughts. It's ruined in my mind, so that's all that really matters. Absent the BMW factory itself fixing it, I'll probably never get over it. I'm taking it to the BMW certified place today for whatever that's worth. I spoke with the guy yesterday and he said AAA was better than State Farm (my insurer) because they use all new parts no used doors from wherever like state farm would want to try. I don't know that for sure, but the thought of a donor door scared the **** out of me. It sounds as though I'll likely have to get mine involved anyway.

And, yea, I need to see how to get a diminished value claim. I keep my cars basically perfect and sell them after 2 years. That's basically going to be impossible to do now.

Sucks man. Sorry. I’d feel same.

Good news is there is probably not a whole a lot of “donor” doors out there.

Oh I didn’t realize that. I wonder if you can demand new parts only.

I’d honestly feel the same way!

My wife’s Pilot got rear ended just two months after her having bought it and it had $35k in repairs done. The shop did a really good job (as good as one can do in that situation) so overall it looks as though nothing ever happened. For the first few months of getting it back, she was a bit down and out about it but as they say, time heals all wounds. She still loves it and has no plans to get rid of it any time soon now.

You are correct that it will be tough to get rid of it within the two year mark now…unless you are able to sell it/trade it before the accident hits the Carfax report and the shop does a good enough job where it isn’t evident at first glance. 😬

Right, but I couldn't do that. I also keep my cars perfect because I sell them private party - not to dealers. It's a hassle, but you get more and you generally get a keener buyer. All of that is now gone, because almost anyone looking to buy the kind of used M car I'm selling is just like me and won't even bother.

Completely understand your sentiment. Even though I know that cars can be fixed to essentially perfect, it would bother me and make me want something else. I wouldn't give up on the diminished value...that is definitely worth pursuing...and then after it is fixed, I'd sell or trade the car. Insurance companies manage risk by their nature. They definitely understand that the time and effort a person would have to spend pursuing diminished value is not going to be worth it to the vast, vast majority of claimants, so they'll just deny your claim or lowball it to get you to go away. It may take you filing a lawsuit to get a reasonable offer, but your fixed G80 will be worth less than a never crashed G80, and probably by several thousands of dollars. Take it to a couple of dealerships when you go to trade it in or sell it and ask them what their offer would have been if it hadn't been in an accident. Ask them to write that down. That should help you prove your case.

If you’re successful with a diminished value claim, the money will usually make up for a lower sale price. That’s the point of it.
