Hi,
i need to get a wheel/tyres package for my m240i.
I have the wheel and tyre protection with BBMW, thus i want to make sure it covers my winter (wheels at least).
Initially i thought that the tyres had to be star approved by BMW. However after speaking with my guy at the dealer, he said that as long as the size and load match, then the tyres do not need to be star rated.

Do you have any experience with that, in case of a claim?

I'm in Canada, btw...

No experience with that.
ME, if a dealer told me that i would want to get it in writing from him for the specific tires you are going to use. Dealer claims are not always totally reliable, but he may be right that the tire warranty covers any tire of appropriate size, read your warranty.

My dealer told me the Wheel & Tire package I purchased covers whatever wheels and Tires I have on the car.

You do not need star rated tires, those are just specifically designed for the car, but are not needed.

I use PMC Tire in Canada, I've ordered 3 sets from them so far with zero fitment issues on any car (F22 M240i, 2022 Mazda CX-30, my 2023 G42 M240i). Only issue is one TPMS had an issue, but they covered it under warranty.

They guarantee their fitment and have some options in stock right now. Make sure you use the discount code on the top of the website on the main page, 10% off. My set came to about $1900 when I ordered, including TPMS and wheel bolts.

Does anyone have experience with going through BMW for wheels/tires?

I saw these and $1600 for set of 4 wheels and winter tires seems too good to be true but maybe they will ream me on the labor this ends up at over $2000 for the set installed?

those are for just one pair (in this case, the fronts). the site isnt well-worded, but when you look at the product description, it says its for the fronts. when i was looking for winter wheels, i saw the same thing and was also a bit skeptical lol.

anyways, i went with cheap flow one rims and michelin x-ices at tire rack. i just said my car was a 2023 m340i and it allowed me to see a decent selection of wheels and tires.

This was another odd thing- most of the wheel/tire shop sites don't even have an m240i option. Seems like the m340i wheels are the same spec. Thanks for the tips!

Oh, really? M340 uses the exact same wheel/offset sizes? If I set the car as a M340 with the ZTK package on Tire Rack it suggests 19x8 wheels with 225/40R19 tires. Anybody tried this setup before? It's also saying to get 255/35R19 tires for a staggered setup. Wondering if that will require wider back wheels like the stock setup, or if a square setup is actually better if I'm wanting to use the tires for autocross.

From what I can tell using the BMW configurator on their website there is some overlap in the wheel codes, if the "Style 792M" is a way to compare the dimensions/spec of the wheel or if it's only the look of it. Perhaps some others in the thread can shed light on that...

When I add the ZTK package for m240i, it removes the 792M wheels and adds 893M wheels.

weirdly when I add the ZTK package on an m340i

it requires these wheels:

it is certainly not unconfusing, ztk vs non, awd vs rwd. the way i eventually felt safe enough to take the plunge and purchase the wheels and tires was because everything at the tire calculator site said the wheel dimensions, offset and other specs were within tolerance or similar to factory dimensions, give or take a few mm's.

that being said, i havent even installed them on my ride yet so i could be sitting here with wheels that dont fit. but based on my research, i think everything should be okay. i went with 18x7 all four instead of the 19x8, 19x8.5 staggered it originally came with because i wanted a more durable wheel for the potholes (thicker sidewalls/profile) and thinner tire width to cut through the snow better.

i wish i could tell you everything about offsets and brake clearance and bla bla, but im pretty much just winging it like everyone else.

when it hits 40 degrees and i change my wheels, ill for sure update. hopefully with good news.

My car came with the 19" 893M wheels which show as:
Front: 8.5x19, 25 offset, with 245/35R19 tires
Rear: 9.5x19, 35 offset, with 255/35R19 tires

The winter wheel package I ordered direct from BMW comes with the 19" 898M wheels and tires, which are:
Front: 8x19, 27 offset with 225/40R19 tires
Rear: 8.5x19, 40 offset, with 255/35R19 tires

So, interestingly, the front setup gets another 2mm on the offset, the wheel gets slimmer by half an inch, and the tires get 20mm narrower. Slimmer wheel, slimmer tires, seems normal.

But then on the back the offset gets 5 more mm of offset and the wheel becomes an inch slimmer, but yet the tire sizes stays exactly the same. So somehow the stock setup fits a 255mm tire on the 9.5 inch wheel, but then for the winter tires they squeeze the same width tire onto a 8.5 inch wheel.

I guess I'll take their word for it... but I'm not sure why the normal setup needs the 9.5" wheel to start with if the same tires fit on an 8.5" one. Seems like I could squeeze even wider tires onto the normal rear wheels if they won't rub.
