Building a 1000HP+ S58 Forged Engine for our G82 M4 with Mr VANOS

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com

With our Stage 2+ Package development finished and the car running consistent 9.9s 1/4 miles on pump fuel and stock turbo it's time to set our sights on the next target, 1000bhp!

To do this we're following in the footsteps of our hugely successful S63 Engine Build package in partnership with Mr VANOS. Together we've been building the fastest and most reliable F90 M5s for the last few years and we hope to continue that legacy with the S58 engine found in the G8x M3/M4.

In this video we join Steve as we take a look at the internals of the S58 engine, how it differs to the S55, and what we're upgrading and developing to make this engine in to a true powerhouse.

Plus who doesn't love a timelapse of an engine being built!

Pre-order is now open for these MV1500 rods, and we’ll be offering full build packages shortly also.

I’m struggling for the right words, this is impressive. Simply amazing!

I suspect this isn’t the peak of what they & others will squeeze out of the S58.

Fuck yes. Love technical breakdowns like this. Especially when people rag on BMWs and say they're unreliable / always going to break and such.

Great video. Thanks! Nice to see the improvements BMW has made from the S65 and S55. Big increase in rod bearing size and the change to the crank hub. Seems like a robust platform to build from.

This is pure gold, thanks for putting this together!

Couple of questions:
- Are you using a stock head gasket on this build or looking at fire rings etc.?
- What about upgraded DI injectors, HPFP etc?

Cheers!

Stock headgasket, even on the bigger power F90 builds we haven’t seen a need for fire rings etc.

Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any DI upgrades, so we’ll be running a CSF Inlet Manifold and Port Injection as we’ll quickly run out of fuel otherwise.

We already knew the S58 was a very robust engine & this proves it's an even stronger block then we originally imagined. Can't wait to see what Mr. Vanos & the Evolve team do with this motor next.

It’s too bad the s58 is inexorably tied to a parts bin slush box and a porky chassis from factory. Imagine a DCT II and matching f80 weight.

Even Biermann would be proud.

Upgraded injectors are out 13% over and bigger ones are coming from Xtreme DI.

Very nice effort. It'll be a shame to see this great engine replaced with an electric motor.

This is great because my goal is 1000hp+ to the wheels for the M2, already got a quote in parts for the build from other proven 1100whp G80 shop with single turbo. I'll be watching this build progress and results and seeing what parts package that will be put together and see which route I'll go. I'll have to get another M2 for when I ruin this one making it a drag car lol

Lot of comparisons being thrown around to the 2JZ, including in this video...

Matt, do you guys have any thoughts on ideal platforms for an S58 swap? I mean we all know the answer is always "Miata" lol but aside from that, any thoughts on dimensions, difficulties, unique challenges if the engine does go down that route in the automotive world?

IMO a limiting factor is simply supply and demand - how many (or rather, relative few) of these comparatively, at least for the moment. If they do start getting sold as a crate engine that would be awesome ('67 Fastback swap perhaps...?) but for now you'd have to wait for a wrecked M3/M4.
