Agree Scully and goes back to my point some months ago that the original lap time didn’t look properly “on it”.

Did he say at the end that the time could be improved upon or that it was improved upon? The implication was that track conditions were good but not perfect.

Imagine the sports car the M Division could make if they weren't pumping out 2.8ton SUVs...🤦

This really is not that impressive considering what PCars do on that track. Everyone will say “yeah but less expensive” but this is insanely slower than a Cayman GT4. It’s on par with a 997 GT2RS.

Impressive company with the 997 but that car is old.

For such a new and limited production car, BMW should have done better. Overall BMW needs to do better.

I did see one of these in person in Santa Barbara and it is really nice looking. So much different than your standard M4 Comp.

Well yea, but no car is a Porsche. They are wind tunnel kings.

Those Porsches are lighter by a good bit and they can live a little longer on tires too.

Weight comes at a cost when it comes to tracking. There is no way the G8x can fight physics, the car is just too heavy.

Though I’d say the comparison isn’t fair for the G8x as it isn’t a car built with track in mind. No matter what type of branding BMW shoves on it, it won’t out run a dedicated P car from the GT Divison on track. You get a BMW because it can do both decently well. You get a 911 GT3/718 GT4(or Spyder) car it is a weekend toy and it can do everything else.

Purpose built vs general purpose from the ground up, not just a rehashed frame / other platform. Or perhaps "from the top down", as it feels like Porsche designs for the track first and street second.

It's just because they have the freedom to start with a less obese and more focused base car.

I'd say the real problem for this CSL is not the GT cars, it's the 911 Turbo / Turbo S. The 991.2 and 992 Turbo S do the ring in about the same time as this car. The difference is the 911 is probably way more compliant and nicer to drive daily. Yeah, there is a big price difference.

I think the CSL is really a car for BMW fans only. BMW's whole raison d'etre is dual purpose and when you make one that is basically track-only you are going to have a hard time competing given the weight. If you just want to go fast, a used Nissan GT-R will get you close to this car if not beat it depending on the exact year and model.

Exactly!! M CARS SHOULD BE DEDICATED TO LOWER WEIGHT VERSIONS! That one was for any of the BMW execs in the house.
