R44 M3 Touring goes on a USA TOUR!
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com The car has some very special upgrades and will be touring (no pun intended) the USA over the next few months. BMW didn’t give the US a Touring so we thought we’d make up for it! We shipped the car via sea, it actually landed in New York in June and was stored until mid July, before being transported down to Miami to kick start the build in the sunshine state. Myself, Dylan (R44’s content creator) and Jake (Our vinyl & PPF specialist) flew from London Heathrow to MIA 8 hours after exhibiting at the great goodwood festival of speed. We took delivery of the car at Vossen’s insane alloy wheel factory in Miami, FL. Finished in Brooklyn Grey, the spec was pretty basic on the outside with no OEM carbon upgrades - the perfect base for a show car build. On the inside, we’ve gone for a black on black leather/alcantara upholstery, as well as the must have carbon buckets. One thing was for sure, the G81 had to change color, which is why we flew Jake out to ensure we could maintain my personal quality standards and the timeframe. The next morning, we headed to a company we had never met before but it was recommended to us, Slammered owned by Danny. Where we hijacked his workshop for the next 4 days to execute a huge transformation. It was time to start wrapping, but not without stripping the car first to make sure we wrapped all visible areas - the doors and shuts had to be perfect! With Inozetek vinyl looking so much like paint, we like to go above and beyond with the wrap - hitting all the finest details. For the color, we chose Inozetek's Khaki Green. With the touring body style, we thought a bright color wouldn't really suit the personality of the G81. For us, Khaki Green was perfect! The vinyl itself was very thick - typical of Inozetek. It's very difficult to work with but, when done right, the finish is incredible. I'd like to add, we were working in temperatures unknown to people from the UK, the workshop at times was hitting 100F. This is a first for me. I decided to put the car on bags. Here at R44, we've been following the coilover route for years now and thought it was time for a change. We went for an Airlift 3P full-air ride management system for that hella flush fitment, as well as some swaggy FLO tanks. This is where the team at Slammered came in with their huge amount of experience, they used 3 different air-ride kits to build a unique suspension assembly that works perfect for the G81 M3. The G81 weighs over 400lbs more than the G80. The legends, Kyle & Diego from Vossen, surprised us with a set of stunning S21-02 forged alloy wheels with a gloss clear finish. These wheels are absolutely stunning & blew me away as I completely left the wheel choice and finish to the Vossen team. An essential to every build is exterior carbon fibre. So from the MHC pre-preg catalog, I chose a very similar styling package that I have on my G80 M3, including the OG products listed below. Up front - SP1 Splitter… funny story I forgot to order one of these on the MHC order so I reached out to my group chats. One of my good friends Alan @m4thestreets from NYC was in Miami on holiday. He was one of the first to order the SP1 from R44 Performance in 2021. He’s covered 40k miles over 2+ years!! So it wasn't as fresh as I would have liked but a real story to share. The car will be running a new SP2 splitter for Mpact Anyways, up front.. MHC Twin fun front ducts to match the design on the SP1. MHC GT front grille Down the side MHC Carbon mirrors MHC Side badges MHC SK1 Side skirts On the rear MHC SS1 corners to match up nicely with the SP1/SK1 MHC DF1 LED diffuser MHC upper diffuser surround trim All finished in super high gloss lacquer For those interested in the up to date mod list, check here…(https://r44.shop/blogs/r44-central/b...44-performance) We now get on the road and head north for part 2 which includes a huge list of hardware to achieve that 800hp goal! Part 2 of the build will be out very soon. Keep an eye on our socials and YouTube channel to follow along. See the M3 Touring at: Mpact New Jersey - Sat 19th August Bimmer Invasion LA - Sunday 3rd September SEMA Show - Oct 31st - Nov 3rd As well as weekly cars & coffees and smaller meets across the states.
