iSweep Pads Shifting and Clicking
Anyone else with iSweep (1500) pads that shift slightly and click? I get it when going forward and then backwards and hitting the brakes.
Any way to reduce this? Better lubricant? |

I know I’m no help to your question but I’m definitely interested in the responses that others might have.

I get the same on the 2000. When starting off the pads “slap” “clunk” and also sometimes when on full lock turning. Also on some bumps but not as much compared to low speed. Had my shop and another shop look at them and they’re installed correctly. Currently I don’t have a solution and unfortunately could be a function of the pads itself.

I think this is normal if you want to call it that. I have a clicking sound in my rear pad I believe. Also my x5 have Akebono pads and they do the same. I think its a hit or .uss with ordering aftermarket pads.

Please stop panicking at something absolutely normal for performance cars. Whatever pads you will get, will eventually do that as they wear down, due to very necessary tolerance variation in these calipers to accomodate high performance driving and resulting heat cycling. |

I've heard there are some shims you can out on the back of the pads to reduce and/or eliminate this sound / noise.

I think whoever installed them did something wrong. None of us with 1500s (I'm on 2000s now, though) have had any squealing issues ever.

You are switching pads because you got a rock lodged and it's creating noise? Get it out and get back to nice and silent iSweeps!

The pads come with a small tube of nice thick copper brake lube/grease. On the fronts you want a good thick smear in the slides and where the pistons touch. You want a light smear on any metal edges of the pads that make side contact with the caliper metal. You want a light paintbrushing of grease on the springs where they touch pads.
On the rears you need to grease up U brace real good, that’s on the opposite side of the single piston/EPB. Grease the slides good. Grease the piston medium. When the grease heats up and sets it sticks the pads to the calipers, but still allows them to slide as needed. That grease is really important to be in the right places to keep things sliding and quiet, but not make a dangerous mess on any braking surface. That’s been working very well for me… I hope it helps you.

I put on iSweep 1500 rear pads on my G82 recently and they are surprisingly clean and also bites much better. The only downside is the occasional rattling/cluncking noise.
I couldn't tell if the car is stationary anything is incorrectly loose. I greased on the pad ears and piston contact area but they seem to be shifting around when the car goes over bumpy areas, or starts to move when brake pedal is released. The noise is sometimes pretty loud and I almost can feel that "bump" with the noise. It's like a bad ball joints or worn bushing. I know it's because of the pads moving because there's never a noise if I apply just a slight brake pressure. Does anyone know where exactly the pads are banging at? Is it latterally with the bracket (I have the stainless steel clips there), or axially with the piston? I am a little worried if it causes any premature wear on the non-consumable parts of the caliper. |

If the pads are tight in the clips, they’re not going to move around. In reality, they don’t really need any lubricant on the clip to pad ear contact point. I’ve never used any on any of my cars with similar back brakes and never had issues. The pads don’t need to move/slide in the clips as much as you think. When you let up off the brakes, they only no longer clamp down, they don’t actually back off the rotors as much as some people think. They ride very close to the rotor with only a minuscule gap.

I’ve had two sets of 2000’s (m3 and m2) now and have never heard a sound from them. That said I’ve only had 1-2k miles total on both sets combined. But no sounds heard yet.
