Scare today - Rear diff lock + other errors
I was excited to take the M4 to work today given that it has sat for a few days. I fired it up and was greeted with 4 errors, including a rear diff lock warning, chassis stabilization, front collision warning and pedestrian warning systems restricted/deactivated.
I was going to take it to work anyway, but it would not allow me to select either of my M1/M2 drive mode settings and I figured it best I leave it home due to the differential warning in particular, so I took my Mazda SUV. I started the M4 back up after getting home from work to satisfy my curiosity and all the errors were gone! I took it for a 40 minute blast down some back roads and it didn't have a single hiccup. Intermittent issues suck, but I'm happy everything cleared on its own and will monitor accordingly. Anybody here have a similar issue that eventually became more than an occasional nuisance? This reminds me that I need to pick up a new scan tool. My Bavarian Technic cable won't work with this generation.

Weird stuff like this always make me first think of the battery. None of my BMWs have ever liked having a failing battery.

I do have a lithium battery charger and tester so I'll give it a health check for good measure.

My guess is the battery may be going bad. Edit: just saw everyone above had the same guess

Replaced the battery, and the issues never returned! If it does prove to be a similar issue for you, I'd expect BMW to rectify that under warranty considering the very young age of your M4. |

I've had four BMW's over the years. The newest being two weeks old. The last three have all thrown random codes that went away after an ignition power cycle. Not saying there's no issue, but don't panic just yet.

I am performing a lithium battery test as we speak and will have results by morning. I'm monitoring state of charge over an additional 12-24 hours to ensure all is stable.

Dude you may want to check for rodent damage. I got some intermittent errors like this. Turned out to be some rodent damage to electrical wires.

Had that exact experience with a new 5-day-old M4 Comp. Coming out o my garage there was a deep decline and one wheel was off the ground That threw it into CHAOS!!!! same symptoms BUT after 30 min all is well
Scary but relieved...... |

I get this when I'm slowly and carefully driving over a patch of perfect tarmac and the car drives itself sideways until its spinning in circles that resemble a donut. Then the autonomous driving systems shut down and the differential locks are restricted.
