First drive impressions of my M3 CS (and comparison vs M5 CS)
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com We knew when the G80 M3 CS was announced it would have some pretty big footsteps to follow given how successful the M5 CS has been. Having driven the M5 CS recently and now taken delivery of my M3 CS, when it comes to straight line speed it’s line ball between the two. So I’m not going to talk about straight speed, if you want that car go electric and fund the Mars missions. The biggest difference is weight, the M3 feels lighter and more nimble when cornering. You can get quite a lot of confidence on the front axle, there is very little if any understeer which you usually find with an AWD drive setup. You do not feel like it weights 3800lbs, it actually feels as light as the F80 (in my opinion - which I drove daily for 7 years). The M5 CS does feel its weight in comparison. That’s also the biggest difference from the M3 Comp xdrive I recently drove too, the car feels noticeably lighter and more agile. The ride: It actually feels very smooth, I thought it would have been a little rougher, but in comfort it is quite good and you could absolutely daily this if you chose to do so. Looks: Like every other G80 they just look better in person. It looks aggressive and this one being in non metallic matte white really shows it’s curves in a positive way. That’s all for now, I’ll write up more when I’m past the break-in. |

It will feel like the longest wait in the world, but will be worth it. The car is amazing and seriously shares supercar like qualities.
I forgot to mention the shifts. It’s as brutal at the shifts in my 458. I was worried the stepronic would be soft compared to the DCT in my F80 and that I’d miss that connection, but it’s actually really good. |

How do you like the bucket seats for daily driving?

The sides are tall, the first couple of times you’ll bump them getting in I promise lol and I’m not a big guy. However the seats themselves are super comfortable, they don’t look it from appearance but you could easily use this as a daily. Even my wife once in the passenger seat was surprised at how comfy they were.

Bold statement, but… This is hands down the best handling BMW I have ever driven and or owned. It actually feels similar to my ‘17 R8 V10 plus (without the v10 drama of course).

Congratulations!! I love this car and I would’ve traded my M5 Comp if I could live with the buckets but I found it hard when I had my original G80. I wish they came with regular seats I really wanted this car if I could’ve gotten it for msrp.
With that being said. Does the steering and feel of it feel floaty? That was my biggest issue with my 2022 G80 comp Xdrive. I couldn’t get over how much I felt like the car was floating. That doesn’t mean the handling wasn’t great because it was. It could take turns at absurd speeds with confidence but I could never get over that feeling like it just felt bland to me like the steering wheel wasn’t giving me the correct feedback of the road. It could have been because I was dailying a GT3 up until 2021 nothing has as much feel as that but I wonder how the CS compares in feel to the regular G80. Can you actually feel the road and feel connected? I think this car is perfect in every way - I love it and I wish I could daily it comfortably because I’d be all over it. If it feels as good as it looks it’s really an amazing car made by BMW and everyone who grabs one is extremely lucky. Congrats again!! |

I mirror the OP sentiments. I took delivery 2 weeks ago and although I only have 500 pre break in miles under my belt, this is one seriously capable and connected car. I agree with what car honey had to say, this may be the closest thing to a GT3 sedan you could buy right now. It’s good. Really good. Most shocking to me is how useable it still is around town and over rough road sections, and then click M2 and it drives like a GT car.
