Problem: Right Xenon (D1S) bulb MUCH brighter than Left

After taking my car home from the dealer just now, my father drove in front of me and noticed that the right headlight assembly D1S bulb is much brighter than the left one which looks dim. I drove his car and I noticed the same thing...what could cause this? I have no errors on the dash...but I do have Mtec H3 and GP 7500K angel eyes and foglights, as well as LED license plate lights (with built in resistor).

I'm seriously disappointed with the electronics in this car. If it's not one thing it's the next. I had problems like this even before I modded anything.

Could it be that in US spec cars the left bulb points downward slightly so as to not blind oncoming traffic. Due to this, when you look at the headlights shining on the car in front of you the right one may seem brighter because it is more directly pointing at the car in front?

Just a guess

Definitely not a likely possibility. The difference is brightness is so noticeable that it almost looks like the car was in an accident.

Well, to be fair, when I look at the car head on (as in standing directly in front of each headlight) both Xenons look equally bright, but for some strange reason when I'm at a distance, one looks MUCH brighter than the other.

First thing to check is the aim, it's possible it is just not aimed correctly.

Will do. Just wondering how in the world it could have possibly went out of alignment.

Fixed

Turns out there is a knob that you can adjust under the headlight cover. All I did was adjust the knob on my left headlight on the drivers side (which was sitting lower than my right) by turning the knob to the left quite a few times until both bulbs hit my eyes at the same angle.

+1 just go to a flat parking lot at night, shine your lights at a building thats about 50 yards away and start to screw the lights until theyre even. it took me about 2 or 3 days to even them out to where i could get max. light coverage with out blinding oncoming traffic. youll know if theyre too high when 80% of on coming traffic is high beaming you

If it is truly dimmer than the other, it is not normal. Like the others have said it sounds like the aim of the "dimmer" light is pointed down more. Go and put your car right up to a wall and see if both lights are at the same level(both hot spots almost side by side). If not then just adjust the aim.... If they are both leveled it could be that you have a bad ballast. To make sure you might swap bulbs from the head lights and see if you still have the same problem. If you notice the problem follows the bulb then obviously you have a faulty bulb... try this and you will find your answer. Good luck!

Had the same problem after a wreck. Light was replaced however, the xenon was not powering on 100%. Turned out the xenon was defective and replaced. No worries now.

that's not quite what I meant by "dimmer"

I meant that the passenger side xenon is aiming higher than the left (drivers side), I would like to know a way to raise the angle of the passenger side xenon to match the driver side. but it definitely appears "dimmer".

i was turning a knob, probably wasn't the right one though, because I could turn it with my hand.

Should be 2 turns counter-clockwise to raise the beam level with the passenger side. Flathead screw driver if need be .....
