M Illumination has the BMW M colors vs the regular ambient lighting that consists of rows of LEDs that can be customized to a variety of colors.

Mine has the M colors on the door panels, but not the dash. Not ever sure mine has that option??

You must have the '22 model in that case. The '22s came with the door panel M colors as optional but not the dash. That showed up in the 23s with that option.

My vote is the ambient. Waiting on ours to show up at dealer in Dallas. Landed in Galveston 3 days ago. So excited! Need to change my garage and signature lol.

I originally ordered without but was part of the 2023 forced M Illumination. I actually prefer it as the colors you can choose for illum stock are kind of lack luster. Had I have known the colors were so limited I would have ordered with M Illumination sadly the dealer didn't know much about the car or options.

I just received my '23 M240i and when I ordered, removing the "M Illumination" wasn't possible. However, I asked the sales manager if he could request the ambient option and he submitted the request without any promises. I was pleased to see that my car did indeed have the ambient lighting when I picked it up.

Kinda curious why someone would prefer the non-m illumination. They both get ambient lighting don't they? Looks like non-m is just brighter in the little window leds

I prefer it because it’s brighter, customizable with the rest of the interior lights vs same three colors at all times, and I personally don’t like the M illumination during the day because it just looks like painted plastic.

Hmm maybe I need to reconsider it as a requirement for finding my perfect spec m240i then

I highly recommend that you see them both in person and play around with the ambient color settings with each. As the poll results show, it's pretty much dead even with the M lighting in a slight lead. It's just so subjective and photos don't tell the full story.
