Good 0-60 and 1\4 miles time for a front-engine RWD car with a non-optimal launch control.

But Wow does the tire make a huge difference in how this car rides and behaves. The car right now does none of the things mentioned in the article. I can't wait to put Cup 2s on it.

+1. I run Cup2s all year round, but then again I live in socal.

As far as I know, there is absolutely ZERO sense in running the R's on the street. I remember reading about how the R is different than the regular cup 2. Pretty sure I learned the R is just a regular cup2, but it has ~2mm of even stickier/grippier rubber on the outer layer. This lasts about 500-1000km or so (depending street driving vs. track) , then once it's worn off you are riding on regular cup 2s.

I'm damned confused now; are those fixed buckets comfortable or not? I recall ScullyD saying they were great. How then did these guys find them so awful on the road?

I applaud BMW for the effort on a halo M3/4 car, but they seem to keep falling short. The problem with the CSL is that there is a CS with the same tires and power, but also with AWD. It doesn't look like a Mustang either. The CS will be the true measure of how good the CSL really is. However, the problem with the CS is that there is a plain old CX. Given the same tires, how much better is the performance of the CSL/CS over the CX?

I have no doubt it's still better, but the trouble is almost nobody alive who is capable of perceiving the difference at the limit is likely to buy the CSL; either they can't afford it, or they can and they're buying a GT car. I think that's a shame because the target market of this car should be able to perceive its superior performance, not just its look at me at the coffee shop performance.

I know they have the 3.0 CSL homage thing, but imagine if BMW used the 6MT car as the base for the CSL and stripped 500 lbs out of that setup instead of 200 out of the auto. Imagine almost no sound deadening, super heavy steering, minimal tech and the loudest exhaust they could legally mate to the car...all with a 6MT. I bet they'd have sold them out much faster, and like the M2CS, they'd have legendary magazine reviews.

Yup. I did starting on my previous f82 and never went back. Car handles like it's on rails when the tires are warmed up.

I could absolutely never go back to the PS4S or pzero lol.

Surprisingly negative review. As if other track oriented cars are comfortable to drive on the street.

I'm happy they built the csl and brought it to the US, but I'll take the rwd 6mt G80 for myself

Edit: also, looking forward to all the comments of people saying instead of buying this 155k car, they would instead buy another car that you can't buy for less than 250k.

It can be pretty confusing.

Car and driver tested the x3 m40 in 2018 with 20" wheels and loved it.
They just tested the 2022 version which is the same car, also with 20" wheels, and if you read both reviews you really have to wonder if someone is off their meds.

Look for yourself
https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a15887757/2018-bmw-x3-m40i-test-review/
https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a39744796/2022-bmw-x3-m40i-by-the-numbers/

It can be really confusing when the same mag has such disparate opinions on essentially the same car.

I am happy with my electronic seats. Makes it easy for the wife to just hop in and go. The seats hold us in nicely. Although I wish I had fixed buckets.

Oh it gets worse. I don't have the links readily available... but the same mag (C&D) and the SAME journalist at one time called the m340i m-sport suspension harsh and "brittle" in one article and called it compliant and comfortable in another. The inconsistencies are mind boggling. Almost makes you think there's advertising money behind what's written in some of these articles

Yeah super comfortable, I’ve been in them for hours. More comfortable than F8x sport seats and the G8x auto buckets. Way more comfortable than Porsche sports seats.

Getting in and out is a bit cumbersome but you can just slam the seat back as far as possible to get in and out.

Also I haven’t had them adjusted yet, this is just from driving around in the default delivery setting.

The no b*llshit from me is they are way more comfortable than the auto buckets (and I have an M3 CS on order as well, just to qualfy my statement).

Thanks for clearing that up mate

I thought I was in a parallel Universe when I read their parting comment about the racing buckets

Car and driver has written two reviews on this car now, one when it first came out and they drove it in Germany and loved it and now this one.

The first one looked like a text version of AutoTopNL’s video review and this looks like a paraphrase of other UK reviewers.

The truth is, no one outside of a few owners, have driven the car on regular Cup2s in warm weather for an extended period of time. Until that happens, I’d reserve judgement of the car. C&D obviously wanted it to be something else, which I’m not clear on what they wanted. The one day I had my car out in 50F+ or above weather on PS4s since I bought it, it was incredible fun. Cold days (45 and below) it was a slog.

The fixed buckets are AMAZING and very comfortable. They really are. It's just sad that no automotive journalist is willing to take the 15 mins necessary to undo a couple of Torx 50 screws to adjust the incline and height of the seat to ensure it fits their body type. Frankly, this is just lazy and it does not strike me as a case of journalistic integrity to then blame the seat comfort for their unwillingness to do their job properly.

As a fyi, the seat adjustment coming out of the factory is set at a pretty straight angle and high, which did not suit me (6'3" / 200 lbs). Once the seat was lowered and the angle adjusted to my body type, I could not believe how comfortable I was in the CSL. So happy I got the fixed bucket seats!

You know what, I couldn't agree with you more. I've always said, to me at least, the only opinion that matters is those of the people who put their hands in their pockets; the owners of the cars - all else is conjecture.

I'll be visiting mine toward the end of the month; the excitement and anticipation is enough to give you a heartattack.
