Hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did - Luke is an amazing presenter and I have a lot of time for him

I can just imagine how many cans of worms this will open, but I'm looking forward to some healthy and reasonable commentary

Great video. I definitely enjoyed it. I feel like comparing his GT3 to the not yet broken in M4CSL was premature. He made his mind up before even getting in the M4CSL.

He's a huge Porsche guy, so that doesn't surprise me at all. But he's definitely one of my favorite YouTubers. The quality of his videos are top notch.

He really liked the car, even talking about it the way he did. He's never been a fan of BMWs, but he compared it to the M2 CS, which he loved and seems to like this even better.

Not on the track - https://youtu.be/s9oKG6IYCXA
Not in a drag race - https://youtu.be/cgQBsghYraQ
It did win on a rolling race though. I’ll give you that.

I still think the csl is a wonderful car.

I posted a comment to his YouTube channel and he replied, "Yes, .... I was sad to give it back"

I get the feeling, he liked it a lot more than he'd bargained for

I’m waiting for the official M2 versus the rest of the Bmw lineup.. the M2 is going to be the elephant in the room. That’s a mention. It looks way better.

Just my thought, too! But the CSL is growing on me and therefore trying to get a M3 CS (I got kids)…

Well, maybe because you don't find these cars everyday in every corner or, perhaps because it wasn't his own car and he could only get it at that time

Try to enjoy it for what it is

We're trying to sell a car that does a 7:20 ring time at same price as a Porsche GT3 which does ring in 6:49. 30 seconds is a big gap.

NOT a fair comparison in price. Also decent car better compared to a GT4.

Aside from that each BMW owner aspires to a Porsche. No going back after that.

The problem I see is that everyone compares prices as if all cars are destined to the US.

In Australia where I live, a CSL costs close to AUD$340K once on the road. By contrast, a STRAIGHT OUT GT3 (not RS) will cost $100k more for the very base model - add a few options and you're talking AUD $600K -- go one step further to the RS and you're looking at AUD$885k

AUD$1 = USD$0.70 roughly

The way I see it, you buy the CSL because you love BMW not because it's a Porsche competitor

It is unfair comparing a stallion and a zebra - a zebra is a very beautiful yet agile wild animal, a stallion by contrast, is a fine tuned and delicate animal which has one purpose only and that is to win races

BMW's pricing has certainly taken a wrong turn, base sticker prices were 1k apart, and you can get a GT3 at sticker price here, but the CSLs were sold out immediately and classifieds are (momentarily) 10% above sticker. Good thing it's just a collector's item because as a car it's nowhere near special enough.

As for Porsche, it's not true for everybody. I went GT3 because I wanted manual and high-revving, naturally aspirated (wasn't there a German car maker that specialised in exactly those kind of engines?). Yet, that didn't make the M2C obsolete. It's a different kind of drive.

The turbocharged 911s overall have lost a significant amount of magic and feel very clinical. On the road, a 911 (up to GTS) is not really an upgrade over your M BMW, except in badge cred.

Having said that, I'm also struggling a bit with the direction BMW/M have taken.
