I went by my local dealer (BMW of Annapolis) to ask them a question and parked next to a '22 M3 in Tanzanite Blue II they had on the lot for sale. I took a few quick cellphone pictures near dusk to capture the difference in color versus San Marino Blue. Thought the crowd here might be interested to see the comparison.

Before getting my car I test drove a used M3 in TBII and loved the color on a bright sunny day. I'm glad I went SMB but still think TBII is gorgeous.

I originally ordered mine TBII but changed my mind and switched to SMB in Nov, that pushed my production from WK3 to WK8.

I think I will be happy with my choice, can't wait.

TBII here, wished I had gone with SMB, TBII is a nice color, but just doesn't pop like SMB.

Color being such a personal choice - there is only a decision which leads one to smile and appreciate the choice.

For me, SMB is an incredible color. Thanks for sharing!

I had the same for my build; initially I chose TBII but moved to Individual SMB. I think you made the right choice and you'll love it!

I owned an F80 in San Marino and now have an M340i in TB II... Tanzanite can look very flat a lot of the time, it needs direct sunlight to come alive, whereas San Marino looks special in all lights.

Agree. San Marino comes alive in all light. It is very close to Portimao Blue which I got on my car, after much deliberation between the PB and the TB II. Luckily my dealer got a TB II and PB at the same time in May 22 and I had them do the same thing as you did with SM and TB II. The online colors in Configurator just don't do these awesome BMW colors justice IMHO.

Thanks for posting, OP. Both lovely hues. I had Tanz in a M340i and was in the market for G80 until the dreaded imposition of ID8, so ended up in a Marina Bay F90 (which resembles SMB under certain lights). Tanz is exquisite and classy, but a true labour of love to keep in condition!

TB ll here as well. Coming from an F90 M5 in Marina BB, I love the way San Marino catches your eye. I really wish I pressed the button on it.

Don't I get me wrong, I really love how my TB II really pops in the sun, on overcast days and dusk however not so much...that's when the San Marino want/ jealously really kicks in!🤢 (hence the stadium floodlights in garage!&#129315

I went with TB II for my I4 M50.
The other choices required individual pain. Although SMB is great, it wasn't enough to get me to drop another $3k on top of what TB II costs.

Now merino leather, I sprung for that.

I saw a 8 series with TB II and cognac leather.

Tanzanite, SMB, Estoril and Portimao along with Alfa Misano Blue.

San Marino Blue reminds me a lot of Interlagos Blue.



Not the best lighting, but you can see IB is a few shades darker than SMB, while still a lot lighter than TBII.

TB is so hard to keep looking good and clean. Great color, but the upkeep wasn’t worth it. Here’s mine getting PPF and ceramic when I first got it years ago. Never looked that good again!

I slightly prefer the SMB. It’s grown on me a lot lately. It’s classy yet still has a nice blue shine to it that isn’t missed.

TB II loses more of the blue but that also gives it more of a subtle and sophisticated presence. There’s a bit of the Carbon Black effect to it. A little less aggressive than the SMB but more classy. That would go well with the white or silverstone interior.

They’re both absolutely gorgeous and suit the car perfectly.

SMB is indeed much more vibrant. Here’s IB on an E90. I feel like the new IB on the G80 is a little lighter.

TBII is the win for me. Absolutely love the color. The only other one I might have considered is Carbon Black....maaaaaaybe Hera Mica....but I didn't want to shell out for the extra full individual package. TBII scratches the itch something fierce and I love the color.
