Question on Launch Control use on the M3 xDrive Competition, I know in the owners manual it states that the Launch Control won't work until after an uninterrupted of at least 6 miles so the engine is at operating condition.
My question is this, if the engine has gone 6 miles or more and now the engine is at operating temperature, and if you shut the car down for say 10-30 minutes, but the car is still at operating temperature - will launch control work right away? Or after shutting down, no matter what the engine temperature is, does one have to drive a minimum of 6 miles? |

In my Pcars, if the engine cools down enough when you turn it off, then you have to wait til its a the proper engine temp before you launch again.

1) it states that the prereq is engine at operating temperature and says 6 miles is just an "approximation" of when the temp should be reached. 2) it states that whether an additional launch can be performed or not is based on the oil temperature, there is no actual requirement to drive around for any distance. i haven't tested for myself but i'm inclined to believe the info from the technical manual over the owners manual which is likely dumbed down. |

I agree 6 miles is just a rough approximate on when the engine is cold and transmission is cold. Think about. Lot of people here taking their cars to the drag strip. They use launch control. They are not doing 6 miles of driving prior to each quarter mile run. That would be ridiculous. As long as u have the oil temp around 190-210 it should work.

Porsche's have the best launch control systems. I think every hard depress of the brake pedal while giving it gas will lock you in launch control. Maybe TC needs to be off too.
