expected production in early Feb. How do I ask for delay so it can get new head unit?

My order was placed in early November. Dealer said expected production is in early February.

How do I ask dealer for delay so my X1 can get new head unit instead of the old head unit? (supposedly the new one will only come on X1 production two months from now)

I can just picture the dealer telling me that any news of this new head unit situation is just rumor.... or should I just make it easier and cancel the order now... then place another one in a month?

Thanks!

I think its risky all the way...i dont trust BMW anymore for nothing. It might start in March but it might start in May if any lack of parts, also bare in mind you can have one car on the same line with older unit - its all pretty shitty after COVID lockdowns so if you are willing to take risk - go ahed but i doubt any dealer can confirm i doubt even BMW can confirm

If I were you, I would cancel the order since it has not started building and place an order later. What to lose?

Why bother? Just for the latest/greatest? Don't see the point. And even assuming the dealer can accommodate, delivery would be what, April? It's odd enough that your vehicle won't be in production until Feb having place your order in November (?)...we ordered Sept ~28, vehicle delivered Nov 21...

Careful about delaying anything with BMW these days have a look over at the X3 forum. Already on the new LCI they have take a load of things off, lights in the doors, dash and more.

BMW likes nothing more than profits and who knows when another price rise is around the corner. Plus there is a lot to be said NOT to be first into a new build it can be more painful than being on current tech than shiny new for many car manufactures. They seem poor at testing to put it mildly.

I don't see it's worth much just for an App store. It makes the OS more buggy and laggy than the stock one.

Also I'm quoting some lines from Carbuzz's post and that makes me wonder, they aren't confident enough to put idrive9 on expensive models and these x1 models are kind of test vehicles for them. I will be moving away from idrive9 in this case

Quote:
"Expect iDrive 9 to debut with our compact cars, specifically Minis, the next X1, and X2. 8.5 will be in the new 5 Series later this year." The reason why the G60 5 Series won't have iDrive 9 at launch is that BMW prefers to release the next-generation software in smaller vehicles rather than more expensive models.

Agree with all the above. Paralysis by analysis?

Delaying your order is risky, especially with all the supply chain issues going around. Who knows if your future order could be missing features because they don't have the parts? Unless they're adding other new hardware into the X1 they haven't announced, I doubt iDrive 9 will be able to add any substantial features that iDrive 8 or 8.5 wouldn't already have. If there's hardware already in the x1, I'd assume that BMW would have added or will soon add the availability in the Connected Drive app anyway.

good advice... I'm not going to do anything at this time. Unless someone finds something that makes waiting for id9 worthwhile.

besides, I have finally settled on the final list of options and packages that I wanted and informed the CA last week. I told myself that there would be no further changes on Friday... until I saw this thread.

my final(99% sure) order will only include: Space Silver, M Sport, alcantara seating surfaces Eucalyptus wood trim, engine remote start, Premium package, active seats, 18" M wheels.

the only additional items I will add after delivery will be two M fender badges(yes, I know, I know)... and two tail lights with amber turn signals, which I'll buy when I'm in Germany later this year.

I'm in the same position. Placed an order yesterday and got the dealerships last allocation for months with a mid February production. Thought about delaying it, but it is not worth it for an app store. Especially if we get the 8.5 update.
