Car horn going off when exiting X1 with key fob.

Hello,

Does anyone know if it's possible to turn off the double horn honk when you exit the car with the engine on and key fob in your pocket? I find it extremely annoying. Could it be coded off thru bimmercode?

Impossible.

The worst part is when the car drives into my office and demands to know why I've so carelessly left it running.

No way of disabling the feature unfortunately. Perhaps when Bimmercode makes the U11 platform available it might be an option to code off

Is there an area where we can suggest updates to BMW? This feature is particularly annoying if you have multiple items that could function as a key... e.g. (phone, key fob, etc.). So if I walk out with my key fob but leave my phone in the car the horn will still beep.

BMW are on these forums, but no, there's nowhere to log suggestions/complaints etc. The only way this will be addressed will be via e-sys or bimmercode (who I've messaged already inquiring about U11 support). My wife wants me to make some minor changes to the way her x1 behaves, but I'll have to wait until there's support.

You probably know this but there is an idrive setting to remind you you've left your mobile behind, but that's probably not what you're asking

what are some of the scenarios where the driver can be accidentally locked out of the X1?

Can't help you there. In over several decades of car ownership this has never happened to me

But I thought the honk is related to when the car is running. So the risk isn't locking your keys in the car, it's forgetting to shut down the engine and walking away.

Just thought of a way this could happen...if you left a key in the vehicle or mobile or card and you were working on the vehicle which required you to disconnect the battery, you could possibly lock yourself out of the car.

speaking of battery.... in the X1, what's involved in taking out the battery and putting a new one? Seems like it's under several brackets/braces in the engine bay. is this something that the owner can do by himself? or will a new battery need to be programmed by the BMW mechanic?

It's definitely a DYI, but you'll need to register the battery via software...something like Carly. I'm guessing e-sys as well. Not sure if it can be done using Bimmercode since I've never had to replace a BMW battery.

Cost is pretty significant, north of $500 all-in up here. In any case, not sure you'll ever need to replace yours.

You sure the battery isn't in the trunk? Looking at the engine bay it doesn't seem like it's under those plates, looks like the normal BMW setup with just the negative post for emergency jumps. I've done battery registrations before on my e90 with Carly, it was pretty easy. Just make sure you write down the battery specs on a piece of paper so you have it handy. I'm hoping once the car is out a bit longer apps like Carly and Bimmercode are able to do stuff like this and basic coding.

the 2023 X1 battery is located on the driver's side under the hood. (below the strut brace) Same general location as the previous X1.... and somewhat complicated to remove, according to videos that I saw.

Interesting. With the plate covering it I couldn’t tell. I’m sure it’s a bit more work to get to but hopefully pretty straightforward.

should be pretty similar to how one replaces the previous X1 battery.... not complicated, but way more time consuming than just two bolts and a bracket holding down the battery. not to mention having to get the battery registered.

Tex, yeah that's correct... it's only when the car is running that you get the beeps.

if I leaves the key fob in the cupholder and press the "lock" button on the tailgate, will I be locked out? Or will the tailgate simply close, but not lock, because it sense the key fob being inside the vehicle?

thanks!

My 328 would not lock when the key fob was inside, even if I hit the lock button on the inside of the car (I didn't have a power trunk or lock button in the trunk). And if I left my fob inside the trunk and closed the trunk, the trunk lid would automatically reopen. But I haven't tested out on my X1 yet.

But I did notice that I don't see a key slot for the mechanical key, so I'm curious of the unlock/start up procedure if your key fob battery dies, and you don't have the digital key with you? I'll have to ask at my Encore Delivery, which I need to schedule.

I thought all of us on this forum were each other's Encore Delivery helpers?

as for unlocking with the mechanical key, this is what the U11 manual shows:

note the warning on that page.... I wonder if that means US-spec X1 also has deadlocking locks?

I went with my mother to her annual check-up several months ago. I was kind of scared when her new doctor seemed to know less than me about some common diseases and syndromes. (my mother's old doctor retired a year ago and she was assigned this new doctor randomly by the clinic) Worst part.... she started looking up things on the internet while we were there(!!!). I immediately had my mother fire her new doctor and found another doctor at the same clinic.
