M stripes on M240i active front grill

So I’m wanting to paint three of the front active grill slats the M colors(blue, violet, red). Has anyone painted plastic before? What type of paint should I use and what prep should I do to the plastic? Also, should I use a sealer since this area gets hammered with dirt, bugs, etc?

I’d try vinyl wrapping it first before you commit to paint.

True. Maybe I’ll ask my guy what he’d charge.

Did you get the work done? Curious how it would look with the active grills.

I asked him and he said that any type of wrap wouldn’t stick to the matte plastic. Hopefully someone has a solution because I think it would be pretty cool looking

You could try this 3M primer to help with getting the wrap to stick:
https://www.3mcanada.ca/3M/en_CA/p/dc/v000178626/
I had success with it before on surfaces where wrap would not stick at all.

This is actually clear. Not grey - like regular primer would be.
I also ordered some Thundernight touch-up paint from this place:
https://scratcheshappen.ca/touch-up-...odel=80#colors
Tried it on a relatively hidden spot - to me it looks like a perfect match.

Just to clarify - that 3M primer is not actually primer for paint.
It is something specifically used to create a sticky surface when applying wraps. It is clear and dries clear.

If interested in ordering from US locations, use this link:

https://scratcheshappen.com/touch-up...odel=80#colors

The above link only ships within Canada.

It looks like you can order this on Amazon as well. They have cans and pens.

I went to Amazon and typed "3M film primer" and found a bunch of options. Here's one:

I heard BMW is using the front facing camera and PDC sensors combined with a software strategy that activates the grill control servos in self defense when attempting to apply stripes.
