wireless charging tray in center console

My 2023 owners manual (G80 - M3) states on page 271 that there is a wireless charging spot on the center arm rest and a holder. Anyone have this or can it be retro fitted?

My wireless charging tray is not in the armrest, but just ahead of the gear stick, near the cupholders

That's where it is on the comp. On the base it is in the armrest because the center console is laid out differently for the manual.

Charging pad in the comp:

Has anyone of you ascertained the exact position of the charging coil inside? With this knowledge and from several "tear down" videos on YT (position of the phone's coil) we might predict whether wireless charging is applicable or not (mostly not exactly aligning coils cause that excessive heat).

I also had the same question as the owner's manual gave me an impression that I have the wireless charging tray in both "center console" and "center armrest". I drive 2023 M3 Competition and I only have the tray in the center console, but not in the center armrest.
It appears that the wireless charging tray comes in only one spot depending on the trim: base or competition. Can anybody confirm this?

It’s an optional feature. You must pay to have it added.

If added, comps have it in the tray, manuals have it in the arm rest.

Many report that it overheats their phone and is worthless, some say they like it. I don’t have it in my car.

Confirmed. Only one spot and it’s an option, so many don’t have it at all.

It’s aight. Definitely makes the phone hot, but never gotten an overheat warning. It doesn’t exactly add the most charge, but keeps the phone from dying.

I think more people need to realize this. It seems to be designed to prevent the phone from dying while running CarPlay, more of a near net zero gain or loss of charge.
