Driver's screen dead spot

Hey, anybody know why there's a trapezoidal section in the center top of the driver's screen? Seems to be on all the cars and not just mine.

On G20 3-Series, before the 2023 switch to the curved display, there are sensors in that area with the Live Cockpit Pro set up if you get the Driving Assistance Professional Pkg. My guess is that they are saving that spot for a future feature OR it's from a parts bin where other models may get that feature.

Genius just now said it's because in other vehicles that spot housed a camera to look at the driver, but the new X1s don't have that camera, so they just left that area on the screen blank. Sounds pretty ridiculous if you ask me, on a fully new redesign.

Maybe so, but with that curved display with no hood, it definitely becomes a "parts bin" type item that can be used in any BMW vehicle. If An X5 or X7 should have more features than an X1. No different than the "blank buttons" in so many cars.

No, and that's super annoying frankly. The odometer displays after unlocking but before starting, and after shutting the car off. I don't know why it wouldn't show at all times. Is there a way we can make suggestions to BMW for future OTA updates?

must be some kind of camera or sensor array there....

look at the YouTube video reviews of the X1, especially the European ones. When the X1 is moving, there are 2 or 3 flashing dots that can only be picked up by GoPro or iPhone cameras...

see video below: start from 3:00

There are cameras in there if you have the assisted drive package that makes sure your eyes are on the road.

Yep thats right. One on top and one either side - you can see them clearly in the sunlight and they come up with a purple hue if you film them.
