anyone have adaptive M suspension and 20" wheels?

How does she ride? What tire did they equip the X1 with? How would describe the ride in terms of harshness when in comfort mode? I've got a spine problem and couldn't handle harsh impacts?

What about adaptive M suspension with the 19" wheels (which I think are ugly and too small for the vehicle)?

Continental EcoContact 6 Q 245/40/20 102Y rated

and at least another...(can't remember which one at the moment)

For 20" wheels does BMW offer only summer performance or all-season too?

the 20-inch tires all appear to be high performance summer tires. only the 18-inch and 19-inch have all season tires.

they are OE tires for BMW:
https://www.continental-tires.com/ca...s/ecocontact6q

by the way, the Pirelli P-Zero on the X1's 20-inch wheels also do not appear on Tire Rack or anyone else's website. They appear to be a new version specially made for BMW and Mercedes.

Very interesting. Good info, thanks! I guess we'll be the guinea pigs, then. I have more confidence in Conti than Pirelli.

as crazy as it sounds, I looked for Nokian studded winter tires(which I had on my Mercedes E-class wagon) Somehow, they apparently have it in 245/40/20 size....

so, for those who live in states where studded tires are allowed, I highly recommend them.... driving on ice/snow with these studded tires is an amazing experience.(I especially enjoyed looking at the faces of Wrangler and 4Runner drivers who got stuck and watched me driving uphill with ease)

As part of the 20" MSport performance package? But those are not high performance summer tires.

those are classified as performance summer tires...

M Sport is not a "performance" package. It's mostly just looks. Different bumpers, sides, roof rail color, M steering wheel with paddle shifters, door sill cover, adaptive suspension(which many buyers have chosen to delete and save $500)

Also, the 20-inch wheel can be ordered with any trim level(base, X-Line, M Sport). The choice of tires is just whatever BMW happens to have on hand, as long as they are performance(not all-season) summer tires. BMW and the dealers cannot guarantee which brand of tires that you receive at time of delivery.

You need xLine or MSport to upgrade to 20" wheels. Base models only come with the standard 18".

ooops, my bad.. never tried to price a base model before.

there apparently is also a 21-inch M Performance wheel for the X1 available through the parts dept.

I believe I've seen dealers offering staggered sets with 22" on the rear!

I have the m sport adaptive suspension on 20s with the Conti tyres referred to earlier. The ride in comfort is super compliant. I am genuinely surprised by how well it rides. It is at least as good as my old Merc GLC with air suspension. The research I have done on the Conti tyres says they dont perform particularly well in the wet but I am yet to test that in real world conditions.

are there potholes in Australia? If so, what do the 20-inch wheels feel like if the pothole is unavoidable?

I drive to New York City quite a bit and there are hundreds, if not thousands, of potholes everywhere... hit one on I-679 coming out of JFK airport last year and it basically destroyed the right front wheel of the rental GMC Yukon... also semi-shredded the 265/65/18 big fat tire like the ones in the picture below. Fortunately, I had CDW and didn't have to pay anything. (but it was no picnic while parked on the snow-covered shoulder waiting for the tow truck to arrive, with other cars flying by me at 80mph) If those big fat tires and wheels couldn't stand up to the pothole, I can't imagine what can happen to a X1 with 20-inch wheel...

Both of these factors need to be weighed against one another when deciding whether or not to go with 20" wheels and low profile tires. Also, your driving habits and kind of trips you typically take. For me, I drive like a 71-year old with Parkinson's Disease and don't driive further than 50 miles from home on decent/good roads. It's comforting that the new X1 comes with a compact spare.

Potholes are kinda luck of the draw sometimes.

My prior Mazda CX-9 with 20" wheels (50 series tires) in 10 years has never had a bubble or blow out from a pothole.

My 3-Series (with 18" 45 series RFTs) in May hit some road anomaly so hard it bent 2 wheels and damaged the front suspension -- tires were fine somehow.

My old Lexus IS (with 17" 45 series tires) had front and back tire blow out on a single pothole one night.

Yes of course we have potholes in Australia. Particularly in Sydney and especially at the moment. What can I say - when you hit a pothole it feels like you have hit a pothole. I would describe the ride as very good.
