my friend traded in her '18 X1 for the '23 X1. She said new headlights not as bright?

My friend had a 2018 X1 with almost 100,000 miles. Her family drove it a LOT. frequent long trips from New York to DC, Florida, Chicago, plus Canada(Toronto and Windsor, just across from Detroit), so mostly highway miles.

She traded it in and took delivery of the new X1 on Saturday. She said everybody in the family loved it. They placed an order a few months ago without ever test driving it, since there was nothing to test drive.

The only thing that she and husband didn't like were the headlights. She said they weren't as bright as their old X1, especially on dark rural interstates. The pattern was fine and the aim appeared alright, but the light projected on the ground just didn't appear as bright. They have an old BMW 330i convertible(2005?) and it HID headlight were still brighter.

I suggested that they get the dealer to check it out. I've gone on a couple of test drives in the dealer demo X1, but all in sunny conditions. Just wondering if any new owners of the X1 noticed any issues with the headlights when driving at night?

Thanks!

Some people don't like the white light the LED's provide and thinks it's not as bright. They are used to the yellow light from halogen or HID (Xenon) headlights.

Could take some time to get used to the white light.

My 3-Series has Xenons, and the G20 loaners I have had with LEDs leave me with a similar feeling. Also, there's no fogs on the U11, so maybe that changes the light pattern she is looking at projected onto the ground?

their 2018 X1 had LED headlights, which was part of some package back then.

speaking of which, their X1 had most options/packages and had a MSRP of around $50,000(which was a lot back in 2018)...

apparent that was as good as money down the drain when it came time to trade to a dealer or sell privately. especially considering the high mileage that they put on it... then again, they did enjoy it. She said the only out-of-pocket that they had to pay for was a seized front brake caliper.

If they are used to LED then maybe something is wrong, have it checked.

I think they are bright or Atleast mine is.. Compared to my gti, I’d say they are brighter than them. Only thing I have a concern is on my head lights I have two darker spots one on each headlight, that cuts out where they could hit mirrors, (which could be to not blind the driver ahead)

I have those darks spots as well on my '22 X5 45e that has the Adaptive LED with Laser Lights.

Some other people have them, but some don't, and they're isn't any confirmation on what the dark spots are for or why some have them and others don't.
