dealer just said that all X1 orders are now getting hands-free(kick) tailgate deleted

Update: dealer said all their order after 30/11/2022 no longer had the "Delete" option.

just got an email from the BMW dealer where my mother placed a new X1 order two days ago

the salesperson said that they were told that all their existing X1 orders(over a dozen of them), including ones going into production starting this months were getting updates that the hands-free tailgate(kick to open) deleted.... as in you can kick and kick, but the tailgate will NOT open. no compensation for having this option deleted. they have no idea if my mother's ordered X1, which doesn't go into production until January, will be able to get this feature back.

does BMW do this to all dealers? or just the smaller dealers who have less clout with BMW USA?

There are certain features that get deleted - there's a disclaimer on the Build Your Own page. But other models do give you a credit for certain deleted features (like try building a 3 Series - on the summary page there's credits for certain missing features) - not sure why this is different.

It's probably a supply chain issue, as this feature has been removed on a lot of models in the past 2 years. Unfortunately, nothing we can do about it. This will affect all X1's until they can stabilize the supply chain I guess. If it's the same sensor used on higher models like the X3, then even more so we won't see it in the X1 for a while as they'll prioritize it for the higher models first. I personally don't care if I get it or not, as it's a feature I wouldn't use.

if they confirm that there's no way to get the kick to open tailgate now, my mother wants to update the order and add the trailer hitch.(which she uses on her current Lexus to carry her bike... she rides better than a certain US president)

I wonder if I'll get it on mine, when it arrives in a few weeks (I hope).

others have said that it shows up as "Delete hands-free tailgate open"...

if you don't see that line on your sheet, then I think you're safe?

I wonder if this is why the list of options disappeared from the My Garage page; that some stuff may be removed?

you mean ALL options disappeared? or just some of them?

hopefully you end up getting a German-spec X1 with manually-operated front seats!(which look very hard to operate, based on the owner's manual description)

Originally when I added the car to My Garage, it showed my color choices and all packages and options. Then 3-4 weeks ago, the packages and options disappeared, and now it only show the colors. But it wasn't just me - others posted that the options disappeared from the page.

Same same, they disappeared when the car was scheduled for production.

Same. But if you use what is referred to as "the chrome hack" you can pull out the chunk of data about your car, including its list of options. You can then cross-ref what's there to the pricing guide. So this just seems like a website bug.

You don't need to use Chrome to see this. The Developer mode in Safari works. Most browsers have some way to look at the raw data and files that were requested and received.

sweet fancy Moses.... I guess we are fortunate that BMW wasn't hired as a defense contractor in charge of guarding mattes of national security?

The issue happening with the new X1 is that stuff is getting deleted and bmw does not even acknowledge as a deletion and there is no credit being offered- like the 10 way power seats may not exactly be 10 way and deletion of lumbar support. They have added lumbar support as an additional option but there was no specific mention of this being included as part of the sport seats option when I ordered the sport seats with the x line. It appears kinda vague to me.

Agreed, and disappointed with the seats on my car not being truly power 10-way. It feels bait-and-switchy.

You need to definitely raise this because this is appears to be a deletion which bmw and the dealerships are refusing to acknowledge.

I raised this issue at the time of delivery to the CA. Will be sending an email to customer relations and start a conversation. Will keep you posted

We placed an order for a new X1 on 12 November here in the UK. The Sales Executive at the dealership showed me a bulletin from BMW in Germany that stated that the hands-free tailgate opening has been deleted from the specification for now. Maybe dealers in the US don't receive these bulletins?

I am expecting all other aspects of the specification on our M Sport to be as per the configurator on the BMW UK website and indeed as per our new order confirmation.

Current delivery forecast is week 51 so if it turns up with the hands-free tailgate opening I will report back here.

When will this supply chain issue end? Every time I hear this (and, I hear it alot), I feel like screaming.

The supply chain issues aren't only because of Covid.

According to my CA, mine should also have the kick to open as she can't see any deletions on my build sheet.
