I think you should be able to now, if not soon. It was delayed at launch, I'm not sure why. There are two different tow hitches I've seen, one that is electrically operated and hides behind the bumper, and one that looks just like a standard welded in tow bar with hitch. I think the latter was a pre-production model though. The tow hitch may or may not be compatible with the M Sport bumper though.

The trailer hitch was SOP for 11/22, so you should be able to order one now. It is only available with the XLine package. I was told the MSport trim line would not support a trailer hitch and it would be significant cash to retrofit one if so desired.

I've looked and "googled" and can't find... does anyone know if the USDM OEM BMW hitch receiver for the X1 a 1-1/14" or 2"?

I have the electrically deployable tow ball on the X1 MSport and it is a nice tidy solution.

It is 1-1/4”. I use it with our Kuat bike rack regularly.

Unfortunately not available in the US. It's a ball hitch on a hinge that folds up under the bumper with the press of a button located inside the trunk.

Hey, as FlashMonkey stated, it is hinged and a press of the button inside the boot (trunk?) controls it. Also, the electrics are on the side of the neck and the breakaway point is at the front so you don’t have to get on your knees too hook it up

That’s super nice. Anyone know if it can be retrofit to the US cars?

Almost anything can be done with enough money......but I think it wasn't offered in the US due to regulations or something like that. I believe I read somewhere a while back that it must be specified from the factory, and is probably permanently attached to the vehicle, so I'm not sure what differences to the rear frame there are.

I will say I honestly have no idea if any of the above is true though, as I have never needed or have been interested in a tow hitch.
