2023 X1 san remo green with oyster-initial impressions

My mom's X1 has arrived at the dealership. Unfortunately cannot take delivery of the vehicle until November 5, 2022 as per BMW due to a stop sale.

I will do a thorough review once I take delivery and drive the vehicle up to NY on a 500 mile trip.

Initial impressions

Exterior- Looks way better in person. Super modern and futuristic, especially the rear. BMW finally came through with a knock out design. Esp. after seeing the new X7 parked nearby.

Interior- I have been driving the previous X1 for a week now (pending lease return) and the interior is NIGHT and DAY between the two models. The materials, fit and finish are absolutely excellent. The new sensatec seats feel better than any leather i've ever had in any previous BMW. Everything is mostly soft touch and well put together. I-drive 8 looks incredible and it's actually more intuitive and easy to use than i initially thought. Quickly changing the temperature is easy and simple.

Overall, i cant comment on driving dynamics yet but the new X1 seems much more grown up and refined. It's a tad bid larger but still looks and feels nice and compact. Pics attached

Note- those are not the stock rims - The "covers" were in the trunk and have to be put on. This vehicle was ordered with the standard 18" wheels. It has the premium package and the x-line package..

I've personally always hated the x1 platform before the re-design. I think they did a bang up job and glad to hear that my impressions will be correct

WOW, looks fantastic. Congrats!

interesting that the alloy wheels have covers, are the covers plastic?
Wonder if they will have options for slimmer covers in the future.

That's actually a great question but i didnt feel them. I hope they're not plastic but they probably are. I'll reserve judgement until i see them on the wheel.

Agreed, while it was decently fun to drive for an SUV, i always found the old x1 to be a little "rough around the edges". I still have to drive this one but already seems like it's much more refined.

How do you like your 228xi ? Do you have msport? I test drove one and liked it way better than the previous X1 overall. It felt more solid, refined and generally well put together. Also was more fun to drive despite sharing the similar platform.

It looks in the pics that the X1 next to your mom's has the covers installed. May be good in the long run - those can probably be replaced if she gets curb rash.

I'm a sedan person even though I'm 6'2 and fat, but I enjoy the 228i. I won't be able to fit a baby seat into my 228i so that's a big portion of why I'm going with the x1, even if it'll be tight in that yet. My 228i was an in-stock unit at our dealership, pretty bland and not really how I would've built it myself, but it was affordable and much more enjoyable than my ford fusion. In an alternate reality, I'd probably be extremely happy with the m235i in snapper rocks blue, maybe even a m240i in thundernight if I could realistically live with a 2door vehicle.

I'd suggest not running it on the interstate for the entire trip.

My thoughts would be to avoid driving at a constant RPM, running at high RPM's, full throttle starts, and hard braking for the first 500-1000 miles if possible.

Nice! Glad to see them trickling in to the dealers, I'm hoping for some in depth US reviews soon.

Mine is a san remo green/oyster as well which is in transit. I ordered without seeing the green in person. After seeing a couple of youtube videos of the x1 recently, I am beginning to get nervous that it almost looks black. This color definitely looks good on the 4's and the x2 though, which is why I was sold on this color in the first place. How much black/dark does it look like in person? The oyster appears to be nice as expected.

I wouldn't say it looks black. It's definitely distinctly green from every angle. It's hard to tell in photos with the shadows and these pics were taking during cloud cover. It's kind of a chameleon of a color. During sun it brightens up and its VERY green. It's more subtle under darker conditions but i dont think anyone would think its black.

On the BMW website, it reminds me of Mini British Racing Green IV. But these pics definitely look darker than that.

Saw one in person yesterday evening. In low light where the sun is not directly shining on the body, it is definitely blackish. I even commented to the SA that it's like getting two paint colors for the price of one. It's much darker the the configurator shows.

Yes. I’m familiar with this. I was hoping it looks shinier in the day. I have a sparkling brown which does the same thing. But unless the sun is out, it looks black. It used to shine in sunlight when it was new. Not so much now after 8 years 😁
