Update:

My X1 arrived at the dealer this morning. It is still in transit mode so can not do anything in the interior. To bad I’m on vacation starting Friday. Delivery is now 9 Nov.

Looks like the mount for the emergency tow hook, I think there's a gloss black cover that goes on there.

Sometimes they ship the cars without the tow hook cover on, if they are securing the car with the hook in transit.

Yes it sucks that it’s here and can’t have, but overseas delivery takes 7 days once at dealership due to custom issues and registration.

Oh seriously? Is that across the board? I had no idea. Mine is still at VPC in New Jersey, but I'm checking multiple times a day to see when it flips back to "In Transit" status, which I'll take to mean it's on the truck up to Massachusetts.

Not that I know of. I am taking delivery of my US Spec X1 here in Germany. So the rules are just as little different for us.

When my current MINI Countryman landed at port, on a Saturday, I received the car Wednesday afternoon. Helps that the port is like 20 miles from my dealer. Hoping for similar with my X1.

From other messages on here, this seems to be a one time delay as the car hasn’t been officially released here yet. Maybe there is some certification paperwork etc. that they need to file before shipping them to customers.

I think it's because he's taking delivery of a US spec car in Germany. Registration and documentation is most likely a pain in the butt, much like importing older Japanese market cars (Skyline's, Chasers, kei cars, etc) here in Hawaii. You have to go through a process of first getting a certification permit from one department, then go to get registration, then go and get a safety check, and then go back to the first department where they issue you a certification seal or something like that.
