Everyone always says the e46 M3 CSL looks perfect, but it looks ancient in these photos.

That E46 is such a timeless car...would pick it anyday over the G8X.

G8X seats are pretty damn epic though...otherwise it's a dumpster fire.

You will think that after decades of design, the difference will be huge and the new one will blow you away… Mmm….. Nope.

The old one still rules in terms of design language and is unique.
The new one will fade faster than people think. And far from timeless. Is just the new Bangle…

Love how they include interior pics to save it. They only share the BMW badge at this point no design elements were implemented into the new car from the old besides the quad exit exhaust.

The only downside to the E46 is the exhaust note. It is too metal sounding to me. But I guess the induction offsets it.

Design wise, these pictures highlight where BMW are going wrong. The M3CSL - timeless elegance and minimal design. Will still look beautiful in 10 years or 30 years when people look back at combustion engines with real curiosity. And next to it, an example of where BMW started to go wrong.

Too many folds, too much aggression, slightly awkward proportions. At this is good compared to the appalling crap that BMW is coming up with now for the XM or whatever they are calling it and the 7 series. BMW's sadly are becoming more and more for people without taste.

Great pics and wonderful scenery. The Alps never get old…and neither does the E46!!

Even with the E46 being as old as it is it looks amazing next to that Mustang.

Both cars look great. The new one definitely does the nameplate justice. Looks absolutely incredible.

I've always liked the design of the M3 E46 (CSL), but those black wheels absolutely destroy the look for me. This black rims trend has unfortunately gone so far that they now have to deface even the icons with them.

I mean, come on...

Totally agree! I was absolutely in the "E46 forever and G8x SUCKS" camp - but I have to say, 2 years later and with a side by side photo shoot I'm actually coming around to like the new look, and in this example the M4 CSL actually looks... incredible? Did BMW actually know what they were doing after all?
