What about bootmod3 for the G05 40i?

I don't see too many posts here mentioning bootmod3 anymore. Anything happen? Anyone here using one on their X5 50i?
I've had one for few years on my 2019 X3 M40i and I'm super happy with it, but I notice not a lot of chatter about them anymore

Do they support the X50i? I have them on my F10 and it's been flawless for a few years.

I emailed them and they said they do support current G05 up to year 2022 and are working on the '23 model.
It's a B58 engine so they have supported those in the past.

My question was more of a curiosity thing as I see very few posts here on the G05 forums for bootmod3…

Yes you can use BM3 and they already have maps already availible for it. The reason you dont see much about it on here is because, on the newer G chasis BMWs the DME cant be unlock without removing the ECU from the car then sending it to FEMTO, who currently is the only company who can unlock them then once you get it back you can load BM3 or what ever you choose that support the B58. With the newer BMWs once you go in for a service and they happen to update the car you lose the tune and will have to re do the tune again resending the ECU back to get it unlocked. So for most they settle with the piggy back stuff for ease of use but will never make more power then with a BM3.

Ah, thanks for clarifying things. That sux that you have to remove the ECU to do all those steps. I didn't have to do it on my X3 M40i so was hoping the experience would be the same. Is RaceChips the same? Have to remove the ECU etc..

Is this still applicable? Meaning the whole ‘having to reprogram’ once BMW updates your DME software? Or has an alternative been found to that?

Once you unlock your DME, you would never want to go and have any new updates from dealer or over the air. You can turn them off on your phone that way it doesn’t receive them and try to download it to the car.

Does anyone know if Bootmod supports the X5 50i (2019)? I have it on my 2016 M3 F80, and it has been flawless and amazing for 2 years now. So I definitely would love to get my new X5 tuned!

Yes they do.

You may need a simple bench unlock on your DME if you've had software updates after June 2020, but other than that you're good to go.

I am honestly loving BM3 on my 40i. The power and the customisation. They've even been able to activate pops and burbles on my OEM exhaust with OPF. I've been consistently getting Dragy times of 3.9s/4.2s (w 1ft roll-out/without 1ft roll out) 0-60 so with a 50i you will be flying.

Thanks! That is awesome news. Yeah I am thinking this thing will fly. When you say I have to unlock, what would that include doing assuming my car had updates after?

Bench unlock involves the tuner removing the DME and connecting it to a special device/computer thing they have. The guy that did mine took about 15 minutes total, it was super quick. But you can't tune it until thats done.

Thanks for explanation. I had a shop do my tune on my F80, I would probably just go back to them (Max PSI in NJ). I am sure they cna handle it! Pumped to get this done.

I’m thinking of have a unlock and using bm3 currently using a piggyback from race chip I’m wondering if hp and tq would be better plus transmission shift would also be smoother? Any info would be nice unlock is only 650 euro

Yes BM3 makes Racechip feel primitive in comparison. I've had racechip, I've had JB+, I now have BM3. BM3 turns it into a different car.

Once you've had an engine tune such as BM3, MHD etc you realise that comparisons to piggybacks are pointless - they are just so far apart.

The piggybacks just felt like a standard car with boost turned up. BM3 changes the engine feel completely.

Get xHP for the transmission in addition and you can adjust all sorts of shift parameters.

I also have an active AW downpipe have not installed it yet will that make any difference with the boot mode? And also a Cold air intake from dinan Carbon fiber, with a carbon fiber inlet to the turbo

The downpipe will allow you to run stage 2 on BM3 - even more power & torque.

Yeah stage 2 on BM3 all the way vs a piggyback.

The BM3 software is great too as it has many customisation options - burbles, gts start up roar, throttle sensitivity control, cold start turn off, permanent grille flap opening, permanent exhaust flap opening, keep o2 sensor CEL off, and some other stuff I've probably forgotten.

Pair that with xHP transmission tune and you can basically customise the way the car drives and gearbox behaviour completely.

No, it's by xHP. BM3 don't have a trans tune for G05/6/7. xHP is very comprehensive. I highly recommend it.
