Passenger Lumbar Support - 2022 M40i

Has anybody attempted to install (or inquired about) a possibility to install a passenger lumbar support on 2022 X3 that came without it ("passenger lumbar support delete") as a dealer-installed option? The wife is not happy about the seat...

The cheaper option would be to buy inflated lumbar cushion.
Other options would be inquire with dealer on part and install cost.
Better get some one who knows what there doing, unglue seats, re glue backing, cut out plastic for lumbar button, re wire electrical parts. Seems like it would cost you a small fortune.

I'm in the same boat - Depending on how lackluster the passenger seating is (without lumbar), I may be willing to spend a "small fortune" to upgrade ahead of a long road trip. Even if I'm the primary driver, I'll probably spend some time in the passenger seat on a road trip, and after enough hours, it can be tough on the back if support isn't great.

Obviously I'll need to wait and see - I won't take delivery until next month. However, the missing lumbar is near the top of my list when it comes to pre-delivery concerns.

After a several hour test drive in a 30i without the passenger lumbar support, my wife said it was intolerable. I really want the X3, but for the cost, we are not stuffing pillows, or pads in the seat for comfort. My present vehicle is more than serviceable for a few more years if need be. I'll wait it out and see what happens to the supply chain. If things don't loosen up, I guess I'll be forced to look elsewhere for a new vehicle. By the way, I tested the leather vs the Sensatec in several models, and I definitely prefer the Sensatec. For the life of me, I can't understand why BMW can't make these deleted options available for a price. I'm sure many of us would pay the piper for options we really want.

For the same reason that they have "Delete" options... They don't give a shit.

Even with lumbar support the seats are not very comfortable imo. Never feel like I sink far enough into them, so there is a big gap between the back of the seat and lower back. Makes them uncomfortable over long journeys. I have a 3 series but the seats are the same.

The 2022 passenger seat without lumbar is horrible. There is no support whatsoever. It's like sitting in a church pew. Which is a shame because the rest of the car really is amazing.

BMW has been using the same sport seats for over 10 or more. They really need to make a change. There the same exact sport seats in the 3 series. I have them in my 3 series although I do have lumbar support and it helps very much. I can move it so it’s at the very bottom and then inflate it there and that’s where I need it to fill in that empty space to avoid lower back pain. I would not be able to use these seats without the lumbar support.

According to the F30 forums, it is possible to retrofit a manual lumber adjustment fairly easily. I am looking for parts now, and I will be installing in my own car if I can get the parts needed.

Too bad BMW doesn't think enough of its customers to make this option available from the factory.

The easiest thing would be to buy a used seat from a current gen X3/X4 or 3 series. They share the same lumbar unit. Then swap the electrics and lumbar unit over.
