EDIT: I thought this was faster than the M4 GTS but the time was not an Official BMW set lap time which was lower at 7:28 so I'll say at least it beat the Audi RS3 lol.

That is a Sport Auto time though. Those times are normally 5-10 seconds slower than factory times due to limited runs and it being a press car or similar.

Correct. M4 GTS did 7:28 with factory driver.

It's cause it wasn't going to be faster than the project 8 or AMG GT 4 door, and the M team knows that.

Being that the Nurburgring is almost a home track for BMW, it would seem likely that their newest performance vehicles are faster on track than their predecessors.

Pretty sure Markus Flasch mentioned it was the fastest yet didn't share details so I don't think I agree. I think the M3/4 do get more press coverage which makes sense given they are the face of M for most people.

The M5 CS is an amazing car and achievement. But it is a big car and a heavy car. I just don't think it's as fast as the project 8 cause the project 8 produces more downforce from the rear wing and weighs a bit less.

Jaguar did put Cup 2 Rs on the P8 for the lap time, while BMW opted to partner with Pirelli for the CS. It's puzzling as you would think the M5 CS would put a seriously lap time down on Cup 2 Rs.

Like you said, maybe they want the fastest car to be the M4 CSL and they rigged that because the M5 CS was much faster than they expected. Or they wanted to protect the M5C and not admit how much better the CS was. We will never know.
