Description: The DINANTRONICS X is the newest installment of Dinan's foray into inline tuning modules. Like its predecessors it is a highly engineered mix of computer hardware and software that enhances engine performance to levels the stock programming is not allowed to venture. It does this without affecting long term reliability or the functionality of on-board diagnostic systems when run under recommended operating variables. Unlike its predecessor however, the DINANTRONICS X is Bluetooth smart and offers convenient access to the adjustment of power levels directly from the palm of your hand. For those that do not wish to (or can't) alter their stock ECU with a more robust engine flash the DINANTRONICS X is a perfect alternative to satiate the craving for "more". Whichever level of engine tuning is ultimately chosen you can be sure to be pleased by the result.

How does this impact warranty and are there any dinan dealers left out there that support these products? Or is that a distant past.

I have been waiting for Dinan to come out with something like this as I trust their products. I don't need a massive tune that will destroy my motor, rather less HP that is safe for everyday use long term.

I believe BMW and Dinan ended their deal a while back. No more warranty matching. Btw, Steve Dinan also has nothing to do with this company anymore. He has a separate company, CarBahn, offering a similar product, but with an optional warranty for an extra $1k. I haven't heard of any reviews of his product though.

A couple years ago it was decided that the factory matching warranty, as far as engine tuning was concerned, would be solely a feature of the Dinan+ flash tunes and not be offered for the inline tuner lines on the go forward.

Eventually, once the newest encryption is resolved a Dinan+ flash offering will be available for the platform (along with the factory matching warranty that comes with it) but for the time being its just the DINANTRONICS X.

Now, why is the casing of these units so similar? (i.e. RC, CarBahn, Manhart, etc.)

To save me some typing the below is a response from a similar comment/inquiry on the other S58 thread in the X3M section.

"Don't think we make any great effort to hide where the physical hardware components comes from. From a cost perspective it simply makes more sense then continuing to go down the path of our own internally developed version of hardware (DINANTRONICS Elite). Lots of great things they were capable of but frankly they were just incredibly expensive to produce which hampered them in many ways.

As far as X goes though -- the hardware may be the same/similar to other entities but the software/calibration/tune is unique to Dinan. Ultimately its another option in the marketplace at a price point we think makes it a valid option for consideration."

I don't know if I would consider it a bear but one of the sensor locations isnt exactly super convenient which makes the install a bit more involved then popping an engine cover. Install intructions are linked ont the site so you can determine yourself how involved you consider it to be.

I personally give this installation a 4 out of 5 busted-nuts rating, just because of said connector. That is why I tell folks to take it to someone with experience or expert.

Anything else you want to tell us about the upcoming "flash" option?

Big hands will get bloodied. Its simply an offering to the car gods. =) Was the same with the DME connector on the last generation S55 and DINANTRONICS Elite. Apparently BMW really wants to make the 6-cylinder M customers suffer to get a bit more power.

Nothing to really tell. Will ultimately be very similar to what we have released for the F97/F98 X3M (2020 MY only) but until the encryption is defeated/bypassed, etc. there really isnt anything to say officially. Work in progress. Been the life of the software team for some time now.

Can you confirm the gains on a base model? Would it be the equivalent to the comp version + 79hp?

Base model power chart is the 2nd one listed on the original post but no they are not the same. Would be max gains of +69 BHP (+60 WHP) on the base models.
