I wonder what bean counter over at BMW looked at the sales of the RS6 Avant in the USA and said "well CLEARLY no one wants one in the USA, don't spend the money to legalise it there."

And they wouldn't be wrong. Before touring/avant/wagons were really dead, I saw way more E63 wagons than I have RS6's. Wagons are like manual transmissions, everyone says they will buy one but sales say otherwise.

The reason here may be that Audi can't deliver enough of them. I'm on the wait list for one and don't expect to have it delivered until some point mid-next year.

It also doesn't help sales that the RS6 is 150k + car. That already heavily limits the amount of ppl able to buy it. Personally, i'd rather have the RS6 over an M3 wagon.

Not really quite that high in the US right now, but you're right: a 6-figure wagon is always going to be very niche, and I think Audi is doing their best to ensure the car remains rare by building the bare minimum. Wait times for it seem to vary between 18 months in the US to 3 years in other countries.

When I ordered the RS6 I did so because BMW said it wouldn't be bringing the G81 to the US. If they did bring it, back then, I'd have ordered that instead. Now I'm not so sure. I kinda put the Touring on the back of my mind and am really looking forward to the day I'll be lucky enough to have my Avant delivered.

Relative to those who can afford it, price really isn't a factor because when the E63 AMG wagon was available, starting price was $145k CDN, the RS 6 starts at $125k CDN but I still saw more E63s than I have RS 6 - not like E63 was readily available or was stocked in as inventory, it was a very niche vehicle.

The whole wagon market is dead, at least in North America like the manual transmissions. This is probably the last generation of cars that we'll see either.

Why not carbon fiber for the roof? Is it a structural rigidity thing perhaps? Maybe torsional shear strength - due to it being a wagon and stretched slightly? I'm just guessing

Sad it won't be coming to the USA - I love wagons, and so do many of my car friends who have coups or sedans, weird how in the US people just want an SUV - wagons are Nectar!

I have no idea how BMW can justify a product like the X4M over this awesome wagon. It makes zero sense to me. I would get this car in a heartbeat. I may end up ordering the sedan next year. I’m hoping by some miracle we get this thing as a surprise but I’m sure that’s as irrational as belief that somehow we will get more rain.

I don't see the point comparing it with the E63 wagon/ RS6. We are talking about a different class of cars at a different price point.

RS6 and E63 are In line with the M5 pricing. An M3 Touring would be in line with RS4/ C63 wagon pricing.
