New track camera setup

Got a few bits from RAM to mount my phone to the passenger seat headrest posts.

It doesn't really interfere with the up and down, theres a lot of play to push the seat down on the top.

Considered doing this as well but I was afraid the headrest would come down and pinch the mount. Does it work even when the car is off and the headrest comes down? What part #'s did you use?

It squeezes it, but still allows to come down fully. I took the arms off and the base ball mount that mounts to the post is nicely tucked.

First of all, sincere thanks for sharing this. I was flummoxed to find that my old F80 setup doesn’t work on the G80 last night, and have painted myself into a bit of a corner as I’m on track tomorrow morning.

So far in trying to emulate your setup I’ve got the base on, but the socket arm nearest the headrest seems to conflict with the seatback when the headrest lowers. I can monkey with the angles a bit more, but before I do, could you please confirm that it’s the medium socket arm rather than the long one?

I’m also assuming that your setup works without removing everything except the ball mount every time you leave the car (e.g. between sessions, lunch), because that would be somewhat impractical. Is this correct?

Again, thanks for doing the legwork on this one! I didn't even realize that the headrests were adjustable until I read your post.

You can leave it all on when the headrest lowers. It squeezes on the padding but nothing too bad. In fact lowering the headrest makes it hold tighter.

But truth be told, Im using my phone for RaceChrono so I attach it to my windshield so I can see the screen and lap times

That makes sense. Once it's on I'll lower it and leave it that way through the weekend. Then remove everything but the ball between track days.

And it was the medium, correct? I can't quite make it out in your photos, but perhaps I just need to angle it forward more.

Perhaps the M4 seats differ slightly from the M3 seats, or it could be that I just suck at geometry. Either way, I wasn’t able to rig it up in the sequence you suggested. Seat -> Mount -> LONG -> connector -> MEDIUM worked fine, though, rather that the Seat -> Mount -> MEDIUM -> connector -> LONG setup you’re running. I'm noting this in tedious detail as a reference in case others want to try the same thing, because it’s a great setup that doesn’t interfere with your rear seats.

Last question: Did you use the additional rubber strip under the smallest of the included plastic shrouds?

Oh, the spacer I figured out.

It's whether to use the little rubber strip or just torque the hell out of the Allen bolts I'm trying to figure out.

Amazon, assuming you meant "buy" rather than "put". If the latter you'll need to clarify the question.
