Just an Up Sale?

Not sure this is the place to post, and if not, I can take recommendations of where to move it.
I am picking up a used 2019 M5, non comp. Since I got the PPI done, obviously my SA knew about the car. Mind you I never get a call from him, it's always me contacting him. But knowing the deal was about done, he calls me and says, he highly recommends this "preventative purchase" to help keep the car good, and reduce heat more quickly, which is known to run extremely hot, thereby extending the life of the car. Says the OEM heat exchange is small, and buying one 3X times size will cool the car quicker, which is good for the car.

"Heat exchange" might be the wrong terminology in my recollection of the phone call, but you get the gist. Any truth to this collective M Brains?? Or just another sales person selling? Is there true preventative things I can do, as this will be my car planning long term ownership. My last M5 was over 100k mileage, and ran very clean. I really like the platform.

Since you don’t know much, your sales advisor can take advantage of you. From your research on this forum, how many members seem to be buying upgraded heat exchangers for their M5? For their engine coolant radiators? For their intercooler radiators? Very, very, very few for either.

You definitely don't need that.

You all are awesome. You're right, I cannot recall that being a thing in these forums. Also if BMW knows of an issue, that would fall under some campaign I have to imagine. Thanks 🙏 all.

Complete bullshit. Your SA is a snake oil salesman.

The OP was not very specific and did not really understand what the SA was saying. If I had to guess at reasonable things the SA might have meant, I come up with a few possibilities.

If it is an early M5, installing the lower temp engine coolant thermostat of the later M5 could help.

Adding an oil cooler protection plate like the Fall Line is not a bad idea.

If you regularly track your M5, higher capacity intercooler heat exchangers could help make track performance more consistent.

Changing the plastic engine coolant reservoir could be good preventative maintenance.

If none of those, you should steer clear of the SA. Tell the SA this and he will say those guys on the internet don’t know what they are talking about….

The S63 has an oil cooler underneath the front lip nearly flush with the undertray.
There's no protective cover for it which is just plain nuts imho.
It can get damaged by debris or if you clip it say when parking.
The F10 M5 is the same but is a lot more recessed so is a little better protected.
The Fallline product looks really well made but doesn't seem to offer much protection from flying debris and is quite expensive.
I have fitted Zunsport black stainless steel grilles all around the front radiators and the oil cooler underneath to my F90. Not as heavy duty as the Fallline one but offers better protection from flying debris I think?

The wire mesh protector looks interesting. Probably would help with road debris as opposed to impacts but might deflect or spread out an impact so it does less damage. A lot cheaper that the Fall Line plate. One concern is airflow — at some point the stuff you put in front of or behind your heat exchangers reduces air flow through them.

With all due respect to those giving the SA the benefit of the doubt, the OP's statement of "Says the OEM heat exchange is small, and buying one 3X times size will cool the car quicker, which is good for the car" is in no way congruent with suggesting a different thermostat, an oil cooler guard, or new coolant reservoir.

I would say that if you live in a hot climate then you should think twice about anything that hinders airflow for cooling on the S63 as it is indeed a very hot running engine
I live in the UK where the climate is temperate and there's barely any opportunities to extend this engine (so sad) so have no such worries!
