Looks good. Would one get this over a new 992 911 variant? Like a 911 GTS or a 911 Turbo S?

That’s a really difficult question. Or even an Aston Martin Valkyrie…

The CSL will be very limited and hard to get (in Canada). In my city we are expecting to get 2-3 allocations, so the CSL will be more exclusive. As far as price I personally am guessing it will be $200k CAD. For that price I could get a nicely optioned 992 GTS (and yes I can get an allocation since I have purchased from my local Porsche dealer). They are different cars in general though.

Surely they waited until after 1,200 mile break in service before testing at high RPM load 😂🤣

$200K is roughly $160K USD, which is over twice the price of the base car. I don't think it will be that expensive. A GTS though can be had with a true manual transmission or hell, even a dual clutch if that's your fancy. If you can get a nicely optioned GTS for the same price or even a few grand more, for me at least, that's a much better option.

They should make an M2 CSL. There's nothing "light" about this car!

Engine in the rear? True two seater? Flat six? Insane amount of mechanically-induced traction? 100 years of evolutionary design language instead of split headlights and kidney enlargements? For the same price as a middle-class 4-seated front-engined family sedan with some sport & performance components and suspension?
I mean come on - the fan-boyism for BMW and for Porsche has its limits too. I'm sure the CSL will be a stunner on the track but it's origins and foundation can't be compared. These cars shouldn't be compared.

I don't think the "standard" of lightweight for a car can be indefinitely defined within a steadfast rapid innovation and evolving technology.

And btw the G series M2 won't be that much lighter than the M4...

No, If I had the choice at the same price I would pick the GTS for sure but since the CSL will probably be cheaper and I already have first dips on it I will try to get one.

The level of effort that is going into the CSL has my respect and if M put at least the same seriousness they did doing the M5CS it's a no brainer for me. Keep in mind I will be taking it to the track. I think for street usage only it's 🤷

They may make an M2 CSL but not until 2024 or so. The next base M2 still has to come out in early 2023. No company releases all of their top products all at once.

Thanks for the tip. Will try for 911 variant. Currently have DCT M2 CS so looking for something different. Will most likely keep M2 CS.

An ordinary M4CX, in Australia, with individual colour is $216k AUD or roughly $160k USD before on-road costs.

The CSL, judging by the price variance between M5C & M5CS, is likely to be $50k, or more, on top of that. On top of which, you add another $25k for on roads (give or take a few depending on where you live). That's AUD$291k or USD$216K (speculating here).

Base model GT4RS MSRPis around $340k drive-away with 2 years or more wait, plus whatever the dealer wishes to charge on top.

I have never owned a Porsche so can't speak about comparability, but on the statistical side of the merit-table, the CSL is a winner.

There will probably be only 1000 CSLs but potentially thousands more GT4RS specimen floating about. On that basis too, CSL is a winner.

Will it be competitive with the GT3RS? Hell no, it's a BMW, it's like comparing a race horse with a zebra; one is a thoroughbred, and the other.....

well, the other is a wild animal.

On that front too, subjectively speaking, CSL is a winner because wild animals are fun to tame.

This is a personal opinion.

Having owned a few Porsche sports car in the recent past, the new M3 is leaning more towards Porsche in terms of performance and feel (sans steering) than it's ever been. So I don't think what OP is bringing up is that far off.

I'd absolutely take the 992 GTS over an M3C but unfortunately impossible to get unless you want to foolishly pay $25K-$50K over. But over an M3CS? If priced $40K below a GTS and performance and feel are 90% there then that would be a tough call, especially having two kids…

We haven't even driven the CSL or CS yet and already saying 992 GTS. These folks care more about brand name than performance / feel and that's fine if that's your thing. The new M5CS won EVO COTY. So imagine the same effort on the M3. BTW - M5CS did the same time as M3 Comp around the ring. And with the CS upgrades on the M3 it will most likely match or beat the 992 GTS.

M3 CS and CSL is based on a GT road car designed for streets with track abilities.

Porsche GT cars are based on a track oriented chassis designed to be applied to a GT and a GT RS cars down the line.

While on the track P cars have superior chassis but I am sick and tiered of the P dealers nickeling and dimming you for the most basic that should be standard options and huge mark up's and their games to be their VIP list. It turns me off from the brand all together.

I walked in to my BMW dealer and orders the car at MSRP with loyalty discount and comes with standard options like a carbon roof, power mirrors and practical things in the snow belt like optioning a remote start from your app. P cars still Don't offer this. P cars are becoming too snobby for my taste lately. I wish they find a way to cut their dealerships bullshit
