OVO Drive & Anytime

My previous energy fixed rate expires shortly. So I'm looking to see what EV tariffs are available. This one seems to be the most cost effective and largely inline with the new expected price cap. Early exit fees are £30 per fuel.

EV charging - £0.05p per kWh (anytime of the day)
Home Electric - £0.29 per KWh
Standing Charge - £0.28 per day

Their gas prices are:
- £0.08 per kWh
- £0.20 standing charge per day

Do any of you folks use this tariff?

Sounds reasonable. How do they know when you are EV charging?

I am on octopus go at 7.5p between 00:30 and 04:30. It’s over 30p during the day.

The home charger sends OVO the details of the EV charging sessions and they then adjust the monthly bill accordingly.

I see, octopus doesnt do that as it just gives you the electricity at the lower rate for the 4hr period. I had thought i would then move my other high energy items to this period such as tumble dryer, washing machine, dishwasher, but then i was put off by the fire risk of these items while sleeping.

Ovo seems like a good tariff though.

Risk tolerances are personal, but I'd suggest that if you have smoke alarms fitted then running these appliances at night is no worse than running them while you're in the garden, or the garage or in the shower!

I run all my high energy appliances during the Octopus low price windows, I'm paying less for evergy overall now than I was last year, even including the EV!

You need to have both a compatible SMART meter, and a compatible Home charger to get this tariff - more info here: https://www.ovoenergy.com/electric-c...-smart-charger

Take a look at the hourly electricity consumption for a day that you are charging, and compare it to a day where you have not charged. There is no doubt when the car has been charged!

However, in this case the smart charger reports back to the electricity company that it is in use for charging. I am able to access the detailed charging figures in my charger app.
