Best ///Mod: Brooklyn Grey M4 painted lowers!
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Some of you may know that I had the lower black panels wrapped last year. The team I worked with at North Bay Auto Wraps couldn't find a color match in their stock wraps, so they proposed printing Brooklyn Grey onto vinyl. They'd print some samples, then we'd compare them to the actual paint. They'd go back to color variations to get closer, and we'd compare again. After 5-6 hours of this, we found one that looked like the winner. At least it did when we compared it to the paint...under overcast conditions. It was only after seeing it in many different lights that we could see it matched the paint by perhaps 95-98%. I loved the look so much I wanted to go all in and get to 100%. A vinyl wrap just can't truly replicate real Brooklyn Grey Metallic. This seemingly simple and largely flat color is surprisingly complex and dimensional. So if the wrap was a proof of concept, it told me that I wanted this permanently. It just so happens that a best friend of mine is also a master painter with two decades of experience. I helped him with all the prep (ton of work!), and he freaking nailed the color. It's like OEM and I love the completed look! BMW - this needs to be a factory option! 🔥 I've introduced my build in other posts, but in case you haven't seen it: (Note to Bimmerpost app users, the app cuts off the images for some reason. 🤷*♂️ Viewing in mobile or desktop browser shows the full images.) Instagram: @m.dreamin Build:
Here's how the wrap turned out before seeing the finished product. You can see it's *really* close to matching the paint. Depending on the light, it's not noticeable or very noticeable. Even in this night time video, it's apparent: And now... Take a look at the finished product. This is what I wanted from the start. Feast your eyes on all this Brooklyn Grey Metallic! 😍 My bud nailed the paint. I'm pretty damn in love with this machine. 🥰

I think its a great mod--- probably not for my car with the black gloss parts and wheels but for you yes.
BTW- the best mod on any G8X IMHO is first: lower and then exhaust. Skyscraper is an assigned height with all OEM cars and not only the ones that have Skyscraper as a color

Painted lowers should be the first mod on these cars IMO. I'll do it as soon as the car arrives.

100%. And congrats on the incoming xDrive. This thing is a damn rocket compared to my RWD F82.

Looks amazing! 100x better than the stock shadow line trim, IMO. Definitely should be a factory option, BMW!!

Looks great, Mike. I need to get those back reflectors done, on my car.

Partners in paint! Honestly, when I got mine wrapped, I was "ok" with it not being 100% of a match. But then seeing how good your car looked solidified it - paint was the only way to go. 🤩

I never thought twice about this before. I didn't even notice the reflectors. Then I started taking pictures and seeing others with the deletes, and suddenly I had a crisis to deal with 😂😂

@m.dreamin Looks excellent & even better then I thought it would. Body colored rocker panels really works on this body style. Glad you took a risk on this!

Looks fantastic!! When the G8X was first released, the black side skirts were my least favorite part.. felt it made this amazing machine look cheaper for some reason. They have since grown on me, and I do feel the black bits look better on certain color combinations (exterior/rims).
I could have sworn I saw another member on here post recently that had the same modification as you.. (might have been the mint green post earlier this week). I'm assuming this is also an aftermarket mod, and BMW is still not offering body colored side panels as an option? |

It's definitely an aftermarket mod for now. But with all the favorable reactions on this forum, and on Instagram (happens in person a lot as well), maybe they'll offer it for 2023 models.
