Special M4 GT/H Handbuilt Collectible Model Not Coming to North America

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Bad news for North Americans: the special M4 GT/H (the handbuilt collectible) doesn't seem to be coming to this side of the ocean.

Rehash of info on this model from the future models thread:
  • A very special limited edition M4 GT/H will be produced for just a few months starting 11/22. It will be mostly configured like the CSL but with manual transmission, several options (comfort access, parking sensors, electric seats) deleted, and the forged wheels off G81.

Noway

How's that possible?

What side of the ocean is it going to? And how many?

This is very sad, what does the GT/H stand for? Is this like an e36 M3 GT type of homage?

I'm sure if it was available for North America some greedy US BMW Centers would charge a $100,000 market adjustment premium anyway.

That is insane. The US is by far the largest market for manual transmissions, by number sold and also probably by percentage compared to autos.

One of the main reasons I skipped over the current generation is that the higher powered Comp versions didn’t have a manual. And now that they are making my kind of car, they won’t bring it here.

F*** off BMW.

Been loyal to the brand myself for 24 years, but getting tired of it. Too many models, too many gotchas; "this but not that". Time for a return to the way it used to be.

I was also very keen on this one, not sure the CSL will be as exciting to me.

For North America, BMW considers us a mass market like Toyota, we sure seem to get more Special editions that are Marketing gimmicks. On the other hand, the special editions like the GTS were slow sellers in NA for BMW. Another case in point is how they flooded the market with their halo car, the i8, killing its value in NA. Left a sour taste. The most recent success would be the M2 CS followed by the M5 CS, which are awesome cars in their own respect.

I also agree with the greedy Dealer comment. It is such a turnoff for a brand. Porsche is a great example, getting a desirable car requires dealer relationships, ADM, and is dominated by flippers - which many times are the dealerships themselves. I am so done with that.

I am not sure it will get back to how it used to be, but maybe I am wrong.

All the whining aside, my hunch is that the production run will be so limited that doing a separate homologation program (thanks FMVSS!) for a single market didn't make sense.

These cars won't be driven on the streets. And someone who wants to put one in their living room can always buy in Germany and bring it on their private plane.

So much for the BS excuse about the manual not being able to accommodate the Competition's torque. (I can't imagine they provisioned a different tranny just for this very limited series.)

Maybe thats just an excuse , in order to turn people to automatics. Porsche kinda did it with ofc different way , but same "maybe" thinking , by giving to automatics the same gearbox shifter as the manual. Who knows ..

They made the big mistake of flooding the market with the GTS (in US and Canada - more than half of total production of around 800.) and now they decide we do not get any of a specific model? Makes no sense.

Actually the GTS was initially sold out before it reached the dealers, same as in Europe and the rest of the world. Some dealers were asking up to $100,000 over sticker.) It is only when they became greedy and decided to add another 100 to the supposedly 700 limited production (all sent to the US) that the GTS started sitting on showroom floors.

As a reminder though, the M3 GTS was never sold here either.

Why wouldn’t it be driven on the street? The only possible reason to buy a car like this would be to drive the wheel nuts off of it, on and off the track.

My living room is for housing people not cars.

US always gets screwed for one reason or another. We are one of Toyota's largest markets. So how did they thank us? - By not bringing the GR Yaris here. Arguably the best hot hatch in existence.

Instead, they're trying to shove a GR Corolla down our throats, even though it will be nowhere near as bespoke and special, considering that it's not a true homologation unit.
