My Individual Dakar Yellow on Ivory White 6MT G80 M3!
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Specs are as follows: Individual Dakar Yellow II, paint code 337 Individual Ivory White full leather interior Executive package Parking Assistance package 19"/20" 826M bi-colour wheels CF Side Skirt Winglets CF Lower blades M rocker panel Carbon fiber interior trim Icon Adaptive LED w/Laserlight M Shadowline Lights M carbon bucket seats I first ordered a G80 M3 from a local dealer around March of 2021 but canceled for a few reasons shortly after. After randomly coming across G80_Soom's M3, I was convinced that the S58 had potential sound-wise and wanted one. On October 4th, I started my hunt and put my name on a few order banks and wait lists. I then came across an IOMG/black M3 at BMW of Omaha, at $3.5k over sticker - fine, I thought, I'm an impatient asshole and I don't mind paying a bit over sticker to get it immediately especially since I'm making a good profit selling my current car. The specific CA I worked with was so grossly horribly incompetent with his ability to communicate, that it took about 6 days just to get concrete lease/financing numbers after telling him what I qualify for incentive-wise and how much I'm putting down. I was moments away from filling out a credit application with BMW of Omaha until Habberstad BMW of Bay Shore called and said they had an allocation for $1k above sticker with a production number ready, week 47 build, early-mid January delivery to N.Y. if no holdups - I'll take it! While this was fine, I really didn't want to take delivery of a sports car in January when winter is in full effect, so I said screw it, let's order exactly what I want and get an individual paint with a later delivery date. With the part shortages and individual paint - I was expecting a delivery around March/April. 'Lo and behold, Dakar Yellow was approved near immediately and only pushed my build 3 weeks into week 50. I still expected some delays, but there weren't any! Having to buy winter wheels unexpectedly was a pleasant problem to have. Here's a general breakdown of my order timeline for those that care: 10/11/21 - Deposit placed, build code provided with IOMG as the original paint choice 10/12/21 - Production number received 10/12/21 at 3:50 p.m. - text message received by CA that Dakar Yellow is formally submitted to BMW for approval 10/12/21 at 5:17 p.m. - text message received by CA that Dakar Yellow is available and approved by BMW 10/12/21 - Status 111, "Order received" 10/14/21 - BMWUSA website tracker shows special paint as confirmation that Dakar Yellow is approved 11/4/21 - Status 112, "Scheduled for production" 11/25/21 - Status 150, “Production Begins” 12/13/21 - Status 155, "Production Completed" 12/14/21 - Dispatched from factory 12/21/21 - At the port in Bremerhaven 1/9/22 - Boards the ship named Asian Vision, officially “In transit” 1/27/22 - Arrives at NY port & enters VPC 1/29/22 - Exits VPC after installing M Performance goodies 2/1/22 - Arrives at dealership 2/3/22 - Delivery at Habberstad BMW of Bay Shore 114 days/less than 4 months from deposit placed to delivery on an individual order - blind dumb luck. I'm happy to report that for me, the CF buckets are very comfortable. The only gripes are the awkward left leg maneuverability as the center CF bit/hump makes it feel weird as I transition from clutch to dead pedal since I have thiccc thighs (never skip leg day), and the egress is more annoying than ingress. After experiencing the seats - I would not buy this car again without them. I would advise everyone try them out before buying, but I'm absolutely besotted by them. The 6MT completes the car experience as it's a joy to row my own gears. I'll keep the rev match on until I'm comfortable doing it since I haven't actually driven manual semi-regularly since 2006. My drive home in the rain and stop & go traffic would've been easier with auto, but the feeling of genuine car engagement felt amazing and really made me feel connected to the car, rather than me being a conductor and it being a tool for transportation. The transmission itself leaves a bit to be desired in terms of feel, but it's still an option I happily would take again. The Ivory White full interior is gorgeous, and will undoubtedly be a pain to keep clean but is well worth it as it's just plain gorgeous in my eyes. I also quite like the fact that the "individual" aspect of the Ivory White full interior means I get matching floor mats, I didn't know that until seeing a Joe Achilles video and think it's a nice touch! I'm also glad I opted for the M performance side skirts/winglets as port installation options, as I was unsure about them at first.. but seeing them in the flesh relieved me as they don't protrude far out at all! Definitely adds aggression and uniqueness to the car. Even though the car is amazing as is, I have the following mods ready for installation as soon as they're delivered and the 1,200 mile service is up. Some of these mods are delayed so I'm really hoping they get here in time to be done all at once (have fun @autocouture ) I'm not an Instagram whore, but I'll post pics on my page @dakar.g80 if you're interested in seeing pics of the car! ANRKY S1-X1 wrapped in Michelin PS4S KW HAS Vorsteiner CF front grille Vorsteiner CF front lip iND CF side markers with Dakar Yellow accents, painted front & rear reflectors R44 duckbill spoiler Remus Race axle back Active Autowerke single midpipe MAD catless downpipes with o2 spacers Here are a few pics! The car isn’t clean at all due to horrid weather We experienced freezing rain and snow last night, so yeah.. I have an extra front set of 826M's in gloss black going to the back wheels and wrapping them in a square 275/35/19 Alpin 5 for the rest of the winter, so I thought I'd snap a few pics before the mismatched finish wheels go on, I'll powdercoat them before the next winter season. Enjoy the pics

Definitely a unique color! Regardless I love reading about your experience getting the car and time frame. Gives me a good window to gauge my own delivery window. Nice to know people can still get a good experience buying these cars. Congrats and enjoy.
Just curious. You mentioned you had an extra set of gloss black wheels. Where did you pick those up. Sometimes I think I want to pick up a bi color set to rock once in a while. I went with gloss black.

Absolutely gorgeous.
When I was a boy, one of my favourite cars ever was a Dakar Yellow E36 M3 that my Dentist owned. It was always a pleasure to go get my teeth cleaned because I got to see that thing. I always wondered what a newer car would look like in this palette and even found myself toying with the idea of an individual M2. Loving these pictures. Thank you for sharing. Enjoy it in good health. |
