BMW color samples

BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
None

Item Interest
One of the frustrations picking out a color is that it's difficult to see them anywhere in person, so you have to make a best educated guess based on internet pictures. Many of us, myself included, would have gladly paid BMW for samples. So, after a surprising amount of hassle I started with 4 colors and had them professionally painted at a local body shop. They are painted on high impact polystyrene including base and clear coat so they look just like the car's paint. If things go well and I have requests I'll add more colors. The Enzian does indeed match my car's Enzian paint so they appear to be accurate.

Dimensions: 9 1/8" L x 4 5/8" W x 1 3/4" H

Mexico Blue
Voodoo Blue
Santorini Blue
Enzian Blue

$100 shipped to the US via USPS Priority Mail.

Cool stuff. The dealership should already have these in every color option available.

That's a nice thought, but I think would be far too cost prohibitive for them for the return on investment. I do think that BMW should at least make them available though. Alas, since they won't I made some myself.

I think it’s cool you did. I don’t know how much it would cost them paint a couple dozen small shells of plastic, of which could be stacked together for shipping, and send them out to all their dealerships. It couldn’t be that much money bro.

I agree. You'd think they could mass paint them, store them somewhere and then at least offer them to customers at a cost. However, there are 133 colors on the individual page so it wouldn't really make sense to have them all available at every dealer, especially since there are some that likely aren't very popular.

Good point. Maybe just pick a couple dozen of the most popular colors including of course the ones they use on the build page. Your samples can be very helpful to someone trying to make up their mind. Although voodoo blue is definitely the best of that group. Just saying. Lol

I could do it, but there would have to be a lot of interest to do those colors as these things a expensive to paint.

Is there a source code for these colors and the metallic flakes that will allow a local paint shop to create samples?

I don’t know if the metallic flakes are proprietary or not. But I would presume a paint shop could otherwise color match by blending colors.

Spending even $500 on color samples is a drop in the bucket on exterior paint choice on a $100K car.

I have seen a Dravit Grey G80 in person, but can’t seem to find a Gunmetal II car anywhere.

Thanks!

I agree, it's a relatively small amount to spend to make sure you're getting the right color. The shops indicated that the metallic paints are more expensive to mix than the flat ones like these so I'm not sure what they'd charge, but apparently more. The color codes are the ones on the individual configurator site.

I only have the 4 blues shown. Getting them painted was crazy expensive so I'm not able to go do color requests.
