Anyone else is coming down to the wire for a 2021 delivery?

Hello everyone, I’m hopefully a soon to be first time BMW owner. Been lurking and getting some great info on this forum the last couple weeks (like to look out for the touchscreen delete).

I ordered my X5 45e in October and tracked it today for the first time. Looks like its awaiting carrier assignment, so I feel good it might arrive before EOY, but who knows.

This is a nice to have, not a need for me, but I could use the write off under 179 because I had an unusually good financial year. I agreed to pay full MSRP (I couldn’t get an Audi or MB for even MSRP in my area, and Denali, Cayenne and Escalade aren’t even available) so with the refresh coming, and this car missing some usual features, I might wait another year if it doesn’t arrive in time.

So just wondering if there are others relying on the tax benefits before year end and also coming down to the last minute. Good luck to anyone else in the same boat, hope your rig arrives on time!

Cheers.

You shouldn't have any problem getting it before the end of the year since you are on the East Coast.

Same here, I'm about 1.5 hours north of Chicago and just hit waiting carrier assignment today. Should be a nail biter finish!

Great choice in color, wheels, and calipers, haha.

I ordered in mid-October and the tracker was updated to awaiting carrier assignment today. The dealer told me it should be ready for pick-up next Monday/Tuesday. When I ordered it most dealers told me a 2021 delivery was unlikely. I too will be deduction 100% bonus depreciation this year, saving me ~$20K in taxes.

Ditto… was built yesterday (two days ahead of schedule), and hoping the rest of the process is expedited as well.

Considered factory delivery just to ensure receipt before EOY, but no openings until later in January.

Will track it a couple more days, but wondering if I can have it shipped to a SC dealer near the factory and take delivery there if necessary. We too really want to take the tax break this year.

Who knows what it’ll be next year…

There are a couple mentions of Chicago/IL here, so I just wanted to share my experience with the delivery timeline. I'm in a Chicago suburb and took delivery earlier in the year. My order sailed through the latter half of the tracker in just a few days...

9/20 - "Quality Check" in the morning and "Awaiting Carrier Assignment" by the afternoon
9/21 - "Dispatched From Factory"
9/22 - Morning call to Genius gave ETA of 9/26, but the vehicle arrived at the dealership late in the afternoon
9/23 - Delivery

So, things can move quickly if the pieces are lined up in your favor.

Good luck!

Awesome to see someone in the exact same situation! It trips me out a bit to just see the volume of cars being sold, its great, just also funny we are getting the same car and with a similar intention behind it. Writting off 100% this year, plus that ev credit is a nice bonus

Good luck! Yea I thought the same thing if it came down to it, try to pick it up in SC, but I'm hoping it doesn't come to that, imagine it would be tricky to coordinate, especially this time of year.

Was getting worried when our car was still in ‘Quality Check’ after 3 days… Logged in today to a pleasant surprise!

Moved up 4-5 steps on this update… Finger’s crossed it keeps moving quickly!

Talked to my dealer yesterday. Car was built and released to the carrier on 12/8 but the carrier has no trucks available to transport it from SC to CO. 4 cars that were built 2 days before mine just put on a truck yesterday so my SA thinks mine should be on the next truck in a day or two. Trucking companies are definitely overwhelmed with the end of the year deliveries, wishing all of us 45e customers good luck for delivery before the end of the year...

Congrats me too! Just hit the ground yesterday, so going to get it in time. Bad news is I can't pick up until next week, as I'm stuck in quarantine with covid. Solo Christmas this year, sucks, but just glad I'm feeling better, last four days were rough.

Mine just did something similar. I was "awaiting carrier assignment" like yours for about 8 days, then the next update it was just at the dealership.

Seems to be what a bunch of us are currently experiencing.

Oh man, to finally get the car in time and then be on covid quarantine for Christmas. Heart goes out to you ...

I ordered my X5 x drive 40i November 23 (was on the fence about 45e or 40i)... I'm on the assembly line stage and hoping to get the car in the next couple weeks - I'm in Atlanta, so not far. But this truck driver shortage/issue is troubling.

Hope you feel better and post pics when you do pick it up!
