New next-gen G60 5-Series specs & info

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
G60/G61/G68 5er
  • G60 in production 07/23-06/30. G61 SOP 03/24
  • Intro models: a couple of ICE models (likely lower end like 530i) and two i5 EVs, including i5 M50.
  • Lineup: heavy emphasis on BEV, with models like i5 eDrive40, i5 xDrive40, and i5 M50. More models will be known later.
  • G60 expected gasoline powered models: 530i (B48M2, 270hp), 540i (B58M2, 370hp), 530e (B48M2+EM), 545e (B58U2+EM, ~350hp), 550e (B58M2+EM, ~450hp)
  • i5 Touring is highly likely
  • Notable features: interior with more glass and metal in the trim, Iconic Glow grows from a simple grille accent into a complete "package", optional Motorway Assist (same L3 system we'll first see on G70), HK audio standard with B&W as option; i5 M50 adds standard adaptive suspension (with another, even better setup as an option) and M trim.

Huh, the long (in proportion) hood vs the short trunk makes the silhouette of the car look very weird to me and disproportionate to me

My question: how much larger is this thing going to get? It's become a boat the past two generations. At what point does BMW decide a 5er should be a 5er and not a 7er?

Very curious to see how the 550e turns out. An electrified inline-6 could be very fun, hopefully this time around they'll have the chassis live up to the powertrain.

BMW already makes one...the 545e. They just don't sell it in the USA.

I'm thinking BMW may position the 550e as a sportier model, more so prioritizing performance rather than range since the 545e will also make it to the next generation (although unlikely in America) and the V8 is likely dead outside of M, also would be a bit repetitive to have 3 different plug in hybrid models, two with the same engines. Although surprised it isn't being called an M-Performance model so that may ruin my theory, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I don't know the exact name of the 50e model yet. As for the hybrids, it's definitely three models, one B48 and two different versions of B58.

There's always a chance one could get cancelled but they all do exist in the current development lineup.

I'm not saying it won't be three models, I just imagine if they have two PHEV's using the same engines they'll likely differentiate them one way or another possibly through M-Performance since the V8 is likely on the chopping block for non M5 models.

Well, there's the 100hp power difference to begin with. But yeah, selling a 450hp+ 5 series as anything but an M Performance car would make little sense.

I expect to see option lists for these cars in the near future, will list the differences between models when I do.

Suspect here in the U.K. and the EU the emphasis will be on electric in the ( no pun intended) current climate.

As I've brought in these forums before, with mandatory speed limiters supposedly coming here from next year, this feature will be built in from the get go.

Lookes like the current g30 with a nip and a tick.
+1 hope it doesn't get any bigger, manufacturers need to get out of that trend.

Looks like it can't make up its mind whether it's a sedan or hatchback… they better figure it out.

Overall the shape doesn't look very expressive. I hope the camo is hiding a LOT of detailing. It's not hard to look better than a Tesla, but not impossible to look worse…

Are they hiding a battery in the floor? Why are the rocker panels so thick and the doors so tall beyond that?

Lol, first reactions to any new BMW model - even the initial test mules = NEGATIVE!!! Even if the article is about specs and info.

It's getting so old.

As a current 2016 550 xdrive owner, I notice the lack of a V8 option, so far. I wonder if the M5 will be a a 6 or a V8. Personally I’m at fan of BMW V8s. The sound alone sold me on my 1st one. Currently have 2 V8 BMWs.

Lol just waiting for the day someone says something like "that black and white swirly paint job looks terrible". It's a prototype. It doesn't look like the final product. Get a grip people.

I'm currently (not so) patiently awaiting the manufacture and delivery of a new 2022 M550ix. I'm glad I didn't wait any longer to pull the trigger, I'm really looking forward to what may be one of the last IC V-8s. Even V and I-sixes are vanishing from many brands and models.

Here's what looks like an accurate render of the G60, based upon the spy shots. I sure hope BMW does something other than contour the headlights to the hood cutline. Also, I think the flush door handles work well on the new i4/4GC and new G42 2 Series--the latter of which is fairly linear and muscular at the sides--but they don't work here.

It looks like a bigger 2-series GC with the sloping rear hood and front. This is not good.

Will there be any ICE V8 models for new 5er like M550 and M5?

I’m predicting low mileage E60 and F10 M5s will be skyrocketing in value in next 5 years to follow E39 and previous gens.

I think this will be the last generation of ICE cars. Governments are trying to force people down the EV route even if it doesn't suit everyone. Not enough infrastructure which both needs to keep up with the increase in EVs being sold but improve as it's not sufficient now
Only today people with Diesel cars older than about 2015 will only be able to drive in London if they pay £12 per day.

So I think at least here in Europe producing a IcE car is going to become more problematic politically.

I'm hanging on my g30 for now , with speed limiters coming in next year , the incentive to get a new car is dwindling rapidly. All the fun of having a car is being chipped away .

Sorry to sound very negative
