G82 M4 vs R8 V10 on track - POV footage

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Took our cars out for their first track day. I'm driving the M4 and my buddy the R8 V10 performance, both on the same Michelin Pilot sport 4s tire. Both are relatively matched in skill. Needless to say he was very upset his 215k audi was getting harassed by my M4 all day . I uploaded some solo clear laps on the track section as well, enjoy!

Thanks for sharing? Were you running the jb4? If so, what setting? You need r compounds or slicks next time

Definitely need some better tires. JB4 was disabled Map 0 for track running to be cautious while under high load for long amount of time on the track. It did however have probably an E20 blend give or take.

Amazing car no doubt but I don't think the awd would help much on a road course. However, the auto trans would likely pick up a second or two along with r compound tires..

That is normal when driving on track. Distance between cars shrink as the speed decreases and the distance increases as the speed rises.

No. Even on the turns where the cars are going already about the same speed, he is catching the other car up

According to Sport Auto times at Hockenheim GP:

Audi R8 V10 Performance 1.55,2 min
BMW M4 (base manual) 1.55,6 min

Competition model would be even faster. Possibly 1.54,x.

When you look at the specs on paper, you'd think this is bad matchup but in reality it's a different story.

Audis have never been that capable on the track. When you look at the specs on paper, you'd think this is bad matchup but in reality its a different story.
Coming from a very underwhelming RS3 2 year ownership I'm not surprised, tho I hoped for a 200k + "supercar" you'd get more track capability

This is very disappointing for the R8, I was expecting more....

The new m3/m4 is really the best bang for the buck performance car right now

No way, the new C8 corvette is a far more capable car than the m3/4 ever will be, even in the most basic spec. Out the door costs are near identical depending on options, etc. as well…

I own both cars and frankly the R8 just doesnt meet expectations on a track while the G8X exceeds.

Is my R8 faster from a dig and a straight line (traps 130-131)- yes but the car just has never been truly track dialed from a chassis and dampening standpoint. Its an amazing street car IMHO with luxury inside and beauty on the out.

It sure has a brilliant presence though and the V10 exhaust note is worth all the marbles. Since Im not a track master, the R8 (my 4th) is a perfect low budget last normally aspirated 600 plus hp car standing (one of them).

Oh I love my G80- heck its my 2nd!!!!

Great job to the OP too---are you sure you are even matched with your R8 compatriot

Completely agree nothing compares to the NA V10 sounds and feeling it gives.
Clear laps I was about 2 sec faster than him. I drove his car and was running roughly 1 sec faster in the M4

Post your lap time comparisons where you call the C8 "far more capable".

Sport Auto Hockenheim GP
BMW M4 (base manual) 1.55,6
C8 Corvette 1.54.6

Competition model would absolutely get into 1.54x

Nurburgring times
BMW M4 Competition (Christian Genhardt) 7.30,7
C8 Corvette (Oliver Gavin factory driver) 7.29,9

Considering that Christian Genhardt is generally 2-5 seconds slower than factory drivers, how does this make the C8 "far more capable"?

The two cars are actually pretty evenly matched and considering that C8 is a mid engine dedicated 2 seater lighter sports car that makes the M4 quite impressive.
