BM3 was such a great experience back when I had a F80 M3. This is great news for the manual guys. Now they will be able to slap the Comp package tune on theirs no problem. And it be a factory like tune. Heck yea!

Impressive that the "untunable" S58 has been cracked. So much for Bosch guaranteeing BMW AG that it couldn't be done. Back to the drawing board for Bosch R&D

For those of us out of the loop, why did BMW want to limit tuning capabilities so badly?

All car companies are doing it with the increase of autonomous functions and full time connectivity. Huge security liability with cars that are always "connected".

I start to wonder what the future has in store for tunes. With the ability to over the air update cars, BMW could just OTA brick ECUs that have been modified and the EPA would back them up. California has already started to check for tuning software on smog checks.

OBD unlock is at the beta testing stage (for ex. one famous red M4 comp at insta).
All DMEs that were sent to us 1 week ago to date are ready for this unlock and you don't need to send them again after the unlock will be fully released.

Bricking them is a safety issues #1. Not to mention you own the car and have a reasonable expectation that it doesn't stop working when the manufacturer doesn't in their opinion like what you've done to it.

I mean if it was a phone and you modified your phone software can the manufacturer brick your phone whenever they please over the air because they don't like modified phones? Now you can't call 911 as punishment? That wouldn't hold up.

We can't answer your question briefly, especially here.
But there's quite of people already tuning their cars and happy with our services. They just don't post it on the forums.
BTW, we are quite surprised with "I'm not going to..." style of replies most of the times here on the forums.

It's crazy to me that anyone would promise an unhackable product. If people have their hands on the hardware, it will be hacked.

I'm going to guess they are going to follow through on their promise by continually updating the product thru OTA software updates. I'm interested to see if 21-07 has already patched it, as on G20 there is an ecu software recall plainly stated in the changelog.
