Anyone here with a G80 using a tuner? Burger, Dinan, Racechip. ETC.

A question & favor to anyone running one of these piggyback/programmers on your vehicle. People who decide to go catless on these can switch between maps & it will disable the CEL I believe.

My question is about the vehicle's readiness monitors. All states that require emissions require a certain amount of readiness monitors to be completed in order to test the vehicle. Back in the day the tuner would "fake" these tests by making the catalyst monitor "N/A" meaning it would tell the computer the vehicle did not come with a catalytic converter so don't run the test & in turn no CELS.

My state has caught onto that loophole & made it so now the catalyst monitor has to be either COMPLETE or INCOMPLETE & will fail if it's N/A.

If you have one of these could you please tell me what your readiness monitors are reading? Any cheap code scanner can check readiness on any OBDII vehicle.

Thank you!

Piggybacks do not disable the check engine light.

Unfortunately a piggyback does not have capacity to auto clear.

So catless downpipes throw a check engine light even with Jb4? Someone had stated the SSR pipes won't throw the code with jb4. I just installed jb4 yesterday and planned to order the SSR downpipe bit I might hold off now

all catless downpipes will throw a check engine light

Active Autowerke offer a catted downpipe that won't throw the CEL

Other than the CEL, won't cause any functional issues right?

Thanks Mike for replying.

Does the DP CEL Fix still exist (can be purchased?) or it was banned already?

I see there are some people saying that the foulers work, but I don't think they do.

Not looking for illegal advise on how to pass emissions, just want to know how to suppress the code.

Interesting....things must have changed over the years. I sold my F10 years back, I was full catless & straight piped on that on JB4, no CEL. However it disabled my catalyst monitor & made it N/A which would of become an issue with emissions if I kept it longer. Does nobody run catless downpipes anymore? Without CELs that is.

I know many different tuners for Honda, Subaru & Toyota where you can go to a tuner & they will disable the CEL for cat codes & also pass/fail the cat monitor at the touch of a key.

This is the reason why I sold my GTR in CA. When I moved from CO to CA (I'm back in CO, btw) with a FBO/e85 GTR, I thought I would be able to circumvent the smog-test requirement. Well, that was not the case. I quickly found out that I could either find someone to "hot-smog" it (illegal), or put the car back to almost stock form which would cost thousands of dollars if done by a tuner.

To add insult to injury, 2 weeks after I sold my GTR in CA, I received my free renewal CO DV tag in the mail I could have driven it for another year w/out an issue.
